I'm thinking of starting a theme collection of coins with bicycles on them. I don't know of many and was hoping some of you could help. So far: 1976 Canada $10 Olympic 1995 USA $1 Olympic 2000 Australia $5 Olympic Thanks
Tour de France coins Also... Lance Armstrong was strong-armed into signing some slabbed PCGS ASEs in 2004 that you might look out for. He also just announce the current race will be his last Tour de France.
So far I've found a few Olympic coins. Canada 1976 $10; US $1 1995 and a new UK 50p. France has issued a number of Tour de France coins and I think Isle of Man has also. More research to come. I did see a set of French coins that were slabbed and signed by Lance Armstrong but haven't gotten the owners permission to use the photo, yet.
Cool Idea. I found a cent from Bermuda that has a Pig on it. I was going to toss it, but my son saw it today and said "Hey Pop, what a neat coin. Man keep that one". So he is going to get it. And as many varieties of animal themed cents I stumble on. I love the bicycles !
Makes sense; the doping checks should be a little better now than in previous years. Here is a list of those coins issued to commemorate the Tour de France jubilee in 2003: http://www.monnaiedeparis.com/fonds_doc/listepus.htm (Click on "Série centenaire du tour de France" to see the list of issues.) Four different designs, and maaany denominations. No images though - this database just provides some info about the specifications. As the coins are not sold by the mint any more, the store links are dead now. Last year Italy issued a collector coin that commemorates 100 years of the Giro d'Italia. The attached image is from the mint's catalog that lists the 2009 issues. Christian
