So i just got back from my first ever coin show :)

It went good. I arrived there and was star struk by all the dealers. It was pretty intimidating at first. I walked every single table and spent about 90 minutes looking before i bought. My first purchase was a 1878 ms 62 NGC vam-16 morgan silver dollar. It was marked at $150.00 but i eventually got him to knock it down to $125.00. Then after walking around some more i spotted a indian head cent dealer. I wasnt planning on buying any and this guy had alot of indian head cents. He showed me some i was interested in, but the price wasnt right and i didnt know alot about them so i just thanked him for his time and continued on. At the middle of the show i spotted a table that was ineteresting so I came back to it later. I found a 1883 ms61 NGC five cent peace (no cent), the marked price was $45.00 but i got him to make it $30.00. Then i moved on and found this other dealer selling a whole lot of sets, he sold me my birthday proof set and knocked 5 dollars off it making it $20.00. Then i bought a WWII set including steel cent, half dollar, nickle, quarter, and mercurey dime all 1943 for $15.00 marked down from $25.00. All in all it was a good day and i met some nice dealers and made some future contacts. I also attended a 45 minute ICG counterfit spotting seminar which i paid $10.00 for admission to it and learned some great things in it.

It sounds like you had a good time, Hunt. Post some photos if you get a chance. Also, did you sign up at the desk to receive their notices for future shows?

Sounds like you did what you should - walk, walk and then walk some more.

My only comment is to perhaps focus. Decide what you want/need before you arrive. You don't have to walk out with a bag full of goodies.

Patience has often saved me .

That indeed is the toughest part of walking a coin show. There is so much stuff that we see that we'd like to add to our collections that we can sometimes get truly overwhelmed. Make a list of what you want to buy and stick with it. So many tempting things to buy....

It sounds like you did very well and congrats on your purchases from your first coin show. Making future contacts with certain dealers is also a good thing and IMO just as important as actually finding what you are looking for. Sometimes those future dealer contacts will be a big help down the road at future coin shows or when you start going to their coin shop. You never know.

I always like going to coin shows. I feel like a kid in the candy shop when I go to coin shows.

I did have a list, and a V nickel and my 1878 8tf morgan was on it, i even listed the max amount of cash i would spend on each :) But it truly is like a kid in candy shop, you just want everything ;)

That is good that you had a "wish list" of what you are looking for. Having a "wish list" helps to prevent a person from buying impulsively.

    THE COIN SHOW

Bob: Coin show? What's a coin show? Do they have little, like, coin actors running around
    pretending to be money?
I don't want to SEE a coin show.. I want to make coins appear in my pocket.
You know, coins or ............ greenbacks.
Dave: No.... no, that's not what I..... Look, people that like coins, really LIKE coins
collect them. A coin 'show' happens when a number of buyers and sellers get together like in the old days. Sitting around over lunch talking about the coins they love. Knowledgeable experts discuss esoteric characteristics like condition, quality, relative values, varieties, grade, eye appeal, toning, patina, and more. And they buy and sell these coins amongst themselves and others. Coin shows provide an almost dreamlike experience, walking among a group of gentlemen with common interests ; the joy of the hunt ; fondling the prize etc, etc.
Just the psychic energy buildup from so many minds all focusing on these shared visions...You really should go to the coin show with me. The first one will blow you away..........
It will open your imagination to a new realm.
Bob: Yeah, that's what I said. let's put some 'coin' in our pockets blah blah blah blah, coin,
blah, blah money and we'll have a beer on the way home to make your experience seem more......uh, dreamlike.

    Dave: That's not fair.
Bob: No, but after a beer we'll pick-up a couple babes...

Dave: I never agreed to anything about babes.
