Well I recently got a 1959 D/D/D RPM, and it sparked me to look through all the wheats I have in bags, in 1.5 x 1.5 holders. I've been looking at every one for the past several hours and I found a whopping total of one!
But I'm still content. I did my best with photos.

Here are both coins, the 59 D/D/D and the 55 D/D, that I found..
    Comments welcome!

What are the odds - generally speaking

    1956-D Lincoln Cent mintage = 1,098,000,000

As of 5 years ago Wexler listed the following varieties for 1956-D Lincoln Cents
    74 different WRPMs
    52 different WDDOs
    8 different WDDRs
    2 different WOMMs
for a total of 136 different varieties.

Assuming a useful working die life of 750,000 strikes gives 1466 working dies.

produces odds of about 9 out of every 100 1956-D Lincoln Cents is a variety listed in the Wexler Files.

Makes me want to look at some 1956-D's, if I had any left to look through :D

I know the 1959 D/D/D might grade at 65, although I probably won't get it graded, the value won't be big enough to support the reason for getting it graded.

    The 1955-D/D I'm guessing isn't worth a whole lot?

Either way on both of these coins I'm a tad excited, it gives me something new to look for in my change ;)

Here's my attempt at getting a pic of my 1959-D/D/D

Need to rig up something to hold the loupe in front of my camera, the shaking of my hand holding it doesn't really help much :)

Yours is a little different than mine, it seems as though yours is a little thicker and tilted slightly differently.
I think these RPM error can make for pretty cool coins.

Nah, I think they are the same... mine is just a bad pic taken at an angle through my loupe with my hand shaking :p

Additionally, i noticed you posted this thread under the "Error Coins" section. An RPM isn't really an "error" but instead is a "variety." That said, you will often find earlier PCGS holders that say "Mint Error" on them which contain varieties such as doubled dies, RPMs or RPDs but none of those are really errors. :thumb:

Of course, many folks disagree about what falls under the definition of "error" and "variety" so maybe they really are errors like you said ;)

Man I got a lot of very nice RPMs that I still don't know what to do with. I would like to give them out to newbies but I don't think they would understan much about them?

Any ideas on what's best or who to give some to? Should I start a contest for them or are they not worth the time?

    BTW, that's a nice one T$.

Here's a couple of mine. My other pictures I can't recover ever since windows 7 got bootleg onto my computer.

I say start a contest and yes they're worth the time.

i agree a contest would be great being someone "new" to collecting i think it would be a great thing to get when you first start it could spark interest in people. And if you truely believe that they arnt worth the time to start a contest you could alway just send them my way :)

    What is D/D/D RPM?

  17. tmoneyeagles

    tmoneyeagles Indian Buffalo Gatherer

That 1959 has the "D" stamped three times.
    Making it a D/D/D

The 1955 is a D/D the "D" is stamped twice.

Don't mind T$. He just has a bad stutter.

A D/D/D is a triple-punched RPM. The die worker had a bad hangover which gave him a severe case of the shakes.
