I found this really cool tripled die obverse while roll searching today. It's a 1973-D in MS++ condition---just a few bag marks and a small scratch in the left field---wonder where it's been all these years to be in such good condition pulled from circulation---

Think I should have it graded?

If it isn't listed in the CPG or on CONECA's site, you need to have it authenticated, first. The grading services won't attribute a variety unless it is on one of those lists.

nice, the only one in Cherrypicker's Guide is a very minor DDO.

    Yours is far superior.

Nice job. YOu've been finding quite a few error coins in your roll searching. Sometimes I pull a few out and check them but never find anything.

do you go over each one with a loupe? I look through kennedy halves but just checking date/mint mark, and try to notice anything different.

Thanks, I have sent the CONECA attibutor an email to have him look at it--

Thanks! I work at it, for certain---you have to be persistent, no doubt about it. It actually surpises me that you can find so many of them.

No, not every coin, but all of ones from before 1978, and yes, I check the pick up points on each of them with a loupe, which is nearly always in the legend "IN GOD WE TRUST". I looked at CONECA's website and this error is not listed, and as mentioned, nothing like the CPG variety. I think that most folks search Kennedys for just the silver, which can be done in under an hour---it usually takes me a good 6-8 hours to go through a box. And I search 5 boxes a week, too. Takes a while to look through 5000 coins---

Your half dollar shows machine damage doubling (MDD)...not a doubled die.

While the "U" does appear to have machine doubling, the rest of the motto certainly appears to be a DDO. Please be sure to report back on what James finds.

I sent him the same image that you see and his answer came back short an sweet---"I don't see anything in the photos to indicate a doubled die. I suspect it is just machine damage doubling.
    Thanks,
    James Wiles"

I have to assume he knows what he's talking about----

But, certainly, the second attached image of the 1974-D IS a true DDO---the coin is exactly as shown in CPG FS-50-1974-D-101. According to the rarity scale shown, there are less than 500 examples known---kinda neat that I found it in circulation, because CPG's comments says "This variety can still be found in mint sets. However, most have been searched".
