Precisely. It's a simple matter to remove the original post entirely with the edit and post completely new offers. That said, you can edit your posts for the first 24 hrs. After that 24 hrs, you cannot edit a post anywhere on all of Coin Talk. Why ? Because SPAMMERS took up the habit of making a legitimate post, usually nothing of substance but something within the rules like single word, or short phrase comments - then they would come back the next day or two and edit that post and replace it with SPAM or even porn links. So we had to stop all editing after 24 hrs.
Peter, I sent you a PM. I am willing to take a stab at develop this feature for you for free. I am a fulltime web developer. Thanks, AJ
Coin Talk Admin. Folks, Everything looks and runs so smooth now, and your gonna make it even better! Thats why I became a supporter right away, I could see a lot of work was going into CT. Bravo! Steve
I hope it will all be better Steve! I'm sure we'll have some rough edges here and there though. And, thanks AJ for the generous offer, you'll have a LOT of fans here if you can get that feature up and working again. I am just about ready to get going with this, maybe late tonight or in the morning tomorrow. The one thing that is going to be borked for a while is the search, I've heard from other people who've been through it that it takes many an hour to re-index the search.
Peter, will older threads with links to still other threads embedded in the text be maintained after the search re-indexes everything -or- will old links to threads within CT be broken? What about image links in threads? like out photobucket images linked to CT threads. Does the re-indexing break old links or maintain them? Thanks again for taking the time to take on this big task.
As far as I know there are no issues with links getting broken. The search engine did get changed. I've heard different things about it, whether it's an improvement or whether it's worse. I figure we can give it a try for a bit and there's another option available at a reasonable cost if the native search feature isn't serving us well.
Thanks. I haven't had any recent issues with the search, only wish you could perform back to back searches a bit quicker, but I can live with that. :smile
I like the new look! Everything is there too, it may just take a few minutes to find where the new button is, but it's all there I figure that we'll all learn the new features as we go along. It'll be like unwrapping a gift on Christmas!
Oh boy, the new look! Been seeing these in some other forums. Takes some adjusting to get used to. Here we go... dang it, where's the smiley I need here. LOL!
