I dont think you can because the back is sealed and if you want a pic you have to open it.. Best if you just wait and send it to PCGS or NGC.:smile

 

thanks everyone and no i cant get a pic of the back. im not going to open it. So please tell me all you know about these grading places what if it gets lost in shipping? how does it work? does it cost money? are there any local places i can go? (I live in Mesa,AZ) and if it has never been handeld it has to be a grade 68 doesnt it?

 

a uncirculated coin should have a minimum grade of 60.

 

It doesn't have to be a 68 and odds are it isn't a 68.
There are probably nicks and other imperfections on it from when it was in the mint after it was minted.

 

If you want to have it authenticated, I will do it for free, just let me know. lol Just kidding of course, better send it over to PCGS, it will cost plenty but it may be worth plenty too!! good luck :hail:

OK STOP. Some of you guys are getting way to excited and are going to cause an issue.

I have owned one of these before and had it graded. DO NOT remove the coin from the packaging to get a picture of the reverse. You do not want to do this. There is a way to tell from the obverse if the coin is the pattern or not.

There is a small patch of die polish just off of the bust on the OBVERSE of all the known pattern specimens. Go to the website above and read where it says "Obverse die marker" This will tell you what to look for on the side of the coin you can see. If these marks are present it is the pattern and should be sent to PCGS. There is no need to do anything to the original packaging.

 

Without photos, I'm afraid no one will be able to giive you the best advice.

Yes, he can! NGC only charges $1 for coins submitted in anything other than OGP or flips which is no big deal, but since the packaging confirms the provenance, I'm not even sure if they would charge in this case.

No, that was my mistake. Dutch was the one who reminded me about the obverse die marker which I had forgotten about.

No! He can request the provenance be added either way.

There are known examples where the dollar in the set is not the strong feathers variety. The only way to get this designation if it's not the pattern is if it is complete in the packaging.

I know only a few of the dollars have been found in these sets that are not the pattern... but it is still something that needs to be considered.

If it is the pattern It could be loose and get the designation...I understand that part... but if it's a regular sac it needs to be complete.

Good advice here mostly....DO NOT OPEN IT! Send it to PCGS for grading. If you don't want to join PCGS, take it to a trusted, local dealer and have them submit it for you. My dealer only charges me $25 for this service.

 

If you don't have a trusted dealer to send to PCGS/NGC for you, you can submit to NGC yourself (without having to join NGC) if you are already a member of the ANA.

Again, don't open the packaging. Send them in as is and have both the buck and the cent graded with the designation...

Congrats for being patient for the past 10 years... I know if I would have gotten one of these in my Cheerios box I would have most likely ripped it open and spent it!!!! OUCH!!!!

I am getting my cheerios coin graded took it in last week!

 

Matt, I still remember when you had a Cheerios Sac walk into your shop a few years ago. That was the first I ever heard of this special coin.
