Just looking for some info on my coin I found, its a 1774 Carolus III coin made from the Mexico City mint. Everything is the same on the coin as others on the site except it says "Hispania - FT - IND - R - M with O above it - F - M What do the other letters mean? I found the coin in Williamsburg with my Minelab metal dectector 1 mile away from Jamestown Island. I also found another coin that is pie shaped and resembles a crown logo on one side and on the other all that I can see is a tiger and the number "37" as the last part of the date of the coin. Pictures to come monday, I was anxious to find out more on these coins. In addition I found several 1773 Virginia Half Pennies. Thanks all

Yep, this by far is the most coins I ever found in one area, and the oldest. I will post pics for sure monday, camera is stuck at work
Sounds to me like you found a spanish cob, clipped. In each of two diametric quarters of the Hapsburg shield stamped on cobs, a lion is pictured (or in some cases, lions are pictured.) They are also pictured in quadrants of the cross. In may be best if you could post photos of this specimen. The O above M is the mintmark for Mexico City. The R is for Real, the denomination. The FM is the mint assayers, F for Francisco de la Pena 1733-1784 and the M is for Manuel de Rivera 1770-1777
A slight correction on the above. If the legend has the letter R and not '1R', then it is a 1/2 reale. Diameter should be about 16mm.

That clipped coin is a 1 reale (I'm guessing based on relative size) from Spain, 1737. Not sure which mint, probably Sevilla.
Ahh ok cool and thanks! Yep glad they are not fake, they were about 1 ft down in very hard soil on the edge of a field, they were pretty evasive once I got down to em, signal constantly jumped around. I almost gave up on the pie piece
Terrific finds! I keep putting off going to the Williamsburg area and doing some detecting... Can you also post pictures of the Virginia Halfpennies you found?
