I recently found this one for my Lincoln set and had Todd photograph it. It matches pretty nicely with my 1926-S and even my 1914-D, as well as several other of my toned Lincolns. And it's pretty well struck for the year. So, of course, I just had to share it with you all.
Well at first site I LOVE that coin, but that T in CENT looks pretty banged up. I'm surprised it graded, do graded Lincolns typically have that problem? Are there other examples like that?
It's just a small ding (not a scratch) on the reverse in a less obtrusive location, and was done long ago and toned with the coin, so it's not considered anything that would hold a back a TPG from grading the coin. I've seen much larger "dings" in the field on coins that still get graded. This coin, of course, would never grade MS65 like my 1914-D (if you compared this coin side by side to my 1914-D, you'd see why the 1914-D was a lock MS65).
But those are field marks of what you describe with other coins. I find it a little odd that the T isn't even complete. I know it is small, but if I were to grade it, I'd think twice. And your 14-D is absolutely lovely and congrats on getting that upgrade!
Good looking coin. T I see the ding and a few more but think about a Morgan in 63 vs. 64....I'd say there are few enough hits to let it be a 64 to me.
I'm not saying it doesn't have 64 details, what I was saying is that the "T" is not complete, and has a ding that goes straight through. I wasn't sure if the series was known for things like this, or if there were graded examples like this in higher grades. It just doesn't seem to me that the higher MS grades would have dings like that, possibly resembling damage.
Beautiful color and accurately graded. Typical over-used die on the reverse. I'm always looking for the 20's branch mints that are complete strikes.....they are TOUGH to find in the higher grades. It seems that 90% or more of the MS graded 20's branch mints do not have sharp details, especially on the reverse.
Just to compare, here's my 1926-S - has very similar toning, some nicks here and there, about the same amount as the 1927-S. (Btw, that's a die crack at the top reverse.)
Once again Charmy, some awesome copper you have there. Is that one going in your personall collection? Great pics as well. Really show the toining.
And that is why your collection will alway be top notch. You keep some awesome coins for yourself and dont share with the rest of us. :kewl::hug:
Yep, I'm kinda greedy that way! Whenever I buy coins, I get first pick before they go into inventory....
But what about the old saying if you didnt bring enough for everyone, dont bring any at all. I think that applies here but should be "If you didnt buy enough for everyone, dont buy any at all" Everyone in this case of course means me. :goofer: JK of course, if I cant own the coins you put in your collection, at least I get to see those beauties.:thumb:
Congrats Charmy We both know, you will search long and hard for a fully struck coin of this date, they are super tough and trade at huge premiums.......
