Those colors don't look natural to me. I list that coin as QT, not market acceptable, and ugly as hell.

I can see the QT but I'd say NT. And yes ugly too lol

The photos are scans so I bet that coin looks a tad different.
Although does it really matter? I don't think anything will do that coin justice.
I doubt a TPG would grade it, so market unacceptable.

NT, ugly. Had one just like it. It sat in a pile of stuff in the kitchen for a few years before I stumbled across it.

Natural toning...if you naturally wake up each morning and lick the obverse of your ASE's. :)

Seriously, it not look like AT in the strict sense to me, but it does appear to be caused by improper handling. We should remember that toning (at least in this case) is no more than silver tarnish, and can be caused by chemicals, heat, humidity, handling or other sources. I'm no expert, but for surface and age I'd say handling in this case.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In this case, I'd just stay away, mostly because unless it is something that is really awesome, it's still a bullion coin. If you really think it's awesome, then go ahead. Personally, I'd stay away.

I would have to disagree with you on this one Dimefreak. The coin doesn't even have the correct color pattern/layout. I would stay away from it and avoid it.

One of these days people are going to realize that nature does not always follow a set of rules.

So would I, but for different reasons.

I am not sure what you are trying to prove by comparing an ASE to a Kennedy Half that is 30 years older, but those two coins look nothing alike. The turquoise color at the rim of the ASE is unusual for the series. It could be that the colors are off from the scan and that the toning is the result of improper storage. However, it is still questionably toned IMO, and I doubt the either service would find that coin market acceptable given the current grading environment for toned coins.

The coin looks 100% natural and the scans make it look like crap.as a matter of fact I know where to get one identical to it,but it has a big scratch on it,or I would own it.I know what caused it,and it is natural 100% .I would have to see it in hand to completely 100% confirm it,but for now im going with 98% NT,because the scans make it look like a bowl of gravy on top of gummy worms.but I have seen many that look just like it.

If you think you are right, put you money where your mouth is. I bet you the price of the coin, the grading fees & $50 that it will not slab at either PCGS or NGC. My only condition is that you have to do all the leg work. You have to buy the coin and submit it for grading. If it bags, you owe me $50. If it gets graded, I owe you the price of the coin, grading & postage fees, and $50 and you get to keep the coin.:kewl:

weather PCGS NGC or ANACS grades the coin,or does not grade the coin means nothing at all.and proves nothing.it would be just a waist of time effort & money.

some people can see the doors in the mind, but choose not to open them,as they let fear controls them, the fear of being wrong.

No, your opinion, Dimefreaks opinion, an my opinion are the ones that mean nothing. I can't prove the coin is AT anymore than you two can prove that it is NT. For the record, I never said the coin was AT. I said the toning did not look natural and the coin is not market acceptable. Dimefreak basically stated that it is 100% NT and you followed up with your 98% NT. I find the combined arrogance astounding since neither of you knows anything about the history of the coin. Furthermore, having seen a coin with similar toning before means nothing since you don't know whether that coin was AT or NT.

If Dimefreak thinks the coin is 100% NT and I think the coin is not market acceptable, the TPG's decision will certainly settle the debate and is not a waste of time.

But we thank you for interjecting your adversarial comments and seemingly condescending philosophy into a conversation that did not include you!

Okay - not meaning to offend anyone, but AT or NT is irrelevant since the coin is ugly in my opinion. If AT means someone will not spend money for it - then okay it is NT.

I am really interested to see if the bet is taken. Interesting to see what a TPG would do with the coin and maybe get better pictures of it.
