That does not look like machine doubling to me but would like to see a better image at some point. TC
I don't know from those pics, but I'm leaning toward MD, since there isn't an entire second image of the "S", just portions of the "S" (from machine chatter?) and they appear to be flat shelf like.
You obviously have no reading comprehension, or the post was vastly superior for your intellect. Did I ever tell you the time I beat Minnesota Fats? Speaking of stretching the truth Mr. Pot.
This is exactly the type of response one would expect from someone who has OD'ed on Kool-Aid. Bye! Chris PS. LEG END, please accept my apology for derailing your thread.
I see what you are saying. I am not fully convinced yet that this is a true doubled die so will keep my mint roll set intact for now. TC
Holy cow. What banter. Anyway, I got a new camera today, and I will try it tomorrow. It gets up to 5mm close in macro. One pic in a dimly lit shop made me plunge for 100 bucks, with a 30 day guarantee for return. So far as a thread being derailed, I dunno what you mean, so it's all good. Post tomorrow. New pics, new camera, same quarter, same shelf double or Doubled Die, you decide! Good to have Numismatists, thanks.:hail:
New pics in the morning. TheI80 is fickled, takes hours to charge the flash. Got the flash going on, and while I waited scored rolls of Kennedys and cents, see the "found in rolls":smile thread. New pics on wednesday.
A clear Hot springs doubled die on Ebay Searching EBAY, I found a good clear pic another ebayer posted, yet the auction went without a sale. It is in their completed items folder. They listed it for 79.99. Shows clear notching of the first :smileA in Arkansas.
Very cool find! I may have missed it in reading through but is the coin in question a P or D mint? I am going to have to go check the dates on my boxes and may have to crack one open I am definitely a firm believer with regards to the dates and the LP2 boxes and am hoping these turn out the same way... sort of... I went a bit crazy buying up about 20 LP2 boxes on ebay and searching through them all I would say that 18/20~ were slap full of errors. Now I haven't checked lately but I have a ton of the first 4 DDR's and a bunch of die clashes but there are so many out there I don't know if they will ever be worth that much. Anyway if there are DDRs out there hopefully there is not many and hopefully I have a few!! Good luck and looking forward to hearing what the experts have to say! J
Mostly P mints Some D ARE mixed in, same type. The boxes are all b4 3-29. Really, get some boxes. Not too many on EBAY from early on anymore.:smile
I am really finding it hard to imagine that a doubled die event is found this close to the rim ( far from center ) on a coin that has dies made by a single squeeze process. Due to the conical shape of the die blank being hubbed by a single squeeze, I can buy the "stuttered kiss" theory of doubling in the center area of the die where the cone shape first contacts, and then moves. I can not visualize any such movement which would produce the circular movement of the "S". My suspicion is that it will be proven to be MD. IMO.
Ok well it turns out I have an early date box so I cracked it open to see and must say I'm a bit suprised to say the following pictures are from the first 2 coins I pulled out of the roll... You can view all the pictures in full size here: http://s987.photobucket.com/albums/ae358/PorscheDude/Coins/ I am no expert but there is definitely somthing going on with the last half of Arkansas, also found a big die gouge or die chip to the top right of the building on the reverse of the coin... Never tried to post pictures through my photobucket account before so bear with me... Thoughts?
I was thinking the same thing and while I have only looked at a few this one definitely shows the most... Oh well guess I'll look through them for other goodies now What do you think of the last pic? Die chip?
The most noticeable thing I see is that in post 41 at top of page, the doubling effect is to the west, whereas in yours, it is to the south. Maybe when we have better photos of the original post we can better compare
