I've been keeping my eye on a major release of the software that this forum runs on since it was in alpha. It came out of beta a few months back, but I felt that they released it a bit prematurely. With a release that came out this week, version 4.0.4 PL1, I think it's finally ready for real time. Some of you may have seen it at other sites, like at the Politics Forum for example. There are some significant customizations on CoinTalk that will make it feel a bit different here. Plus, some customizations that were well liked that I'll be revisiting to see if we can't get them back (like the Thread of the Week, for example).

Sometime next week. More likely earlier in the week than later. CoinTalk will be backed up, taken offline for a short period of time, then we'll be back better than ever. I'll also be giving a new try on a more formal marketplace. We'll try to figure out what to do with the 'Credits' or if we should just do away with it. I'll be building on a new 'Showcase' feature which will give you some tools to display your collections. And, that's the tip of the iceberg.

Looking forward to seeing the new and improved site, Peter.

Thanks for continuing to keep an eye out there for ways to make a great site even better.

Very cool Peter, looking forward to the TOTW, possibly coming back. Will there be any chance of having the TOTW H.O.F. where it showed the people with the most TOTW awards? Also, if you do bring the award back, will you wipe the slate clean after a while like you did before, or will you let all the awards stand? And will any of the awards any of the members previously had, come back?
Also, any word on the arcade? I kinda liked the arcade feature, just a small way to calm down and chill while still being on CT...and of course I was the king. :D

Sorry for all the questions, just was a little curious. ;)

The stuff about the TOTW, that's all up in the air. The guy who originally wrote that code, I don't know what happened to him, I'll have to get someone else to work on it. The arcade, thanks for reminding me, I'll get that back up too.

It seems like there have been a lot of questions regarding "How do I sell my coins" and eBay threads, etc.
So any improvement to the marketplace or open section is welcomed.
I think that Coin Talk members should buy, sell, trade right here as long as it remains free.
    No need to go elsewhere.

A comment that I'd like to add to that, is can we please post more than one post per week?
Keep our threads to one a week, but our posts to the thread more than one? Like posting a simple TTT, or making updates to pricing or adding on to what is for sale on that thread?

At least let us edit threads on the Open Forum and Auction Listing forum. I can't even tell you how many times I've listed something for sale and had to deal with several interested folks after I had sold the item. If I could have edited my post to say "sold" that could have been avoided.

That would also be a nice feature. That has happened to me as well, along with wanting to update the price if it hasn't sold, or even update a piece of information, such as payment or shipping.

We tried that. People kept cheating - that's why it was stopped. You may be honest, but there's whole lot more who are not.

Any time you want something marked sold - just ask. I'll be glad to do it for you. I even make edits within reason, and the rules.

    Thanks for the tip.

That politics forum is the bees knees! Also, it'll keep me civil here, mostly (barring a flame that is worthy). Thank you for the introduction to the other board. I hope it doesn't end up the way my other fave forum went down. They first sent agent provocateurs in to post objectionable content, then the next shoe dropped, with members who did not like their "secret friends' " posts complaining, and then the final shoe, the forum was shuttered and all posts vanished into the electronic graveyard. I hope you catalog not only the posts here, but also the IP's they come from and their owners. Lots of government dirty tricksters out there after free speechers like us. Levels the playing field edited :smile

But, what am I going to do while the site is down? Where will I go? I feel like I'm reliving Rainman!

Since they can only post one per week, if they can edit their post, they could then post as many time as they wanted.
