With the newer copies that are being made, it seems the "x" die lines under the left part of the top of the "T" in cent, are still not manageable in the process. If I had a raw one I was trying to sell on Ebay, I would certainly put a photo showing this if it was real.

I find the 2 bidders so extreme, one has 1 feedback and the other 1404 ( all showing are numismatic related.

Double-struck and DoubleD Die are two entirely different animals.

And would someone please explain to me how the obverse is double-struck but not the reverse.

The listing is no more. With paypal guarantee and 3 day return, someone was betting return postage it might be real, and I can think of another possibility which is best left unsaid as the auction is gone.

Hey Guys Look at the 55 Doubled Die I just picked from ebay! I was one of two bidders then the seller ended it early and asked if I wanted to buy it! I got it for a steal at $300, what do you think?

ohh.... wait a minute, I just read this thread.

I do not believe that we have seen the last of this specific coin.

To my novice eye, I would have thought it real at first, but the lettering looks off also and the highpoints on the coin are in fair detail but the numbers and letter's are completly readable. I would have come to the conclusion it was fake it would take me a little longer. I guess the main thing I can take from this is take your time, take your time and examine closely.

well you may be right kandiggit but I have been looking at the two pictures and aside from one being in better shape I cant see the difference.

One of the outstanding differences is in "LIBERTY".

well you are right about the knowledge I gain here but aside from one coin being in much better shape I still cant spot any difference at all, the letter placement is correct right down to the lower second "T" in TRUST. I would never pay that much for a coin because I am always broke but it would be nice to know one when you see it. so, please, whats the difference between them?

denisford, one of the best ways to identify a fake (counterfeit) is by looking at the rim. A fake (specially the most deceiving ones) have a smaller rim (thinner).

The "field" area around the rims also is a give away as it looks almost as it had some sort of a lamination which no real die of this variety really has.

Like Jim said "we haven't seen the end of this particular coin."
