You're right! I was so intriqued by the reverse that I overlooked the obverse. Definite same effect---here's the shot---

Kennedy's cheek looks like he just left the dentist after some major dental work with the puffiness---or got a good right cross from Muhammed Ali---

Leave it to me to find the strangest errors on coins.

I was searching through a roll of pennies for the more well known errors and varieties and stumbled upon this strange "blob" over "LIBERTY" on a 2006-P Lincoln Cent obverse---it appears to be molten metal flowing from the nape of Lincoln's neck down through the legend----there is also another blob of raised metal just NW of his shoulder---

    Opinions? One of kind?

    Searched coin EXPERIMENT

A member of this forum has asked me to post this. He didn't want to post it himself because of the purists on here that might give him grief for it. So, while I don't particularly subscribe to what he is doing, I do think it is an interesting experient.

He wants to find out where coins go after searching them. Here is what he wrote, "I am marking each reject coin with an olive colored permanent marker across the obverse from just above the "IN GOD" straight across the ear of Kennedy to the "T" in "LIBERTY"."

So, if you run across this marking, please post here and we can see where the coins go after they are searched. He is somewhere in the South.

    Thanks for participating.

    p.s. It isn't me.

So I finally bought a somewhat large amount of rolls at the bank today. 10 pennies, 5 nickels, a dime, and a quarter. All I got out of everything were 3 wheaties, 2 canadians, and maybe some errors, variations. No silver, and nothing older than 1955(in pennies, everything else was 60s). Pretty discouraging. I went to 2 of my wachovia branches within 5 minutes of each other. So far no half rolls, only 7 loose the last time I asked on saturday. Bank of america didn't have much to offer either. How do you get luck? What strategies/banks do you use? Should I just go to or call every bank within 10 minutes of me? No territory or america the beautiful quarters either, just circulated presidential dollar rolls. Hmph

Everything is too streamlined up here. Your best bet is to just order boxes and look through them.

From the banks? What about fees?

I was thinking about making phone calls tomorrow...there are approximately 25 banks in a 15 mile radius I think, that might be a little bit of an exaggeration, but there are a lot.

Went through $5 worth of pennies, found one canadian cent from 1963 and two wheaties (1956-D and 1957-D). Also went through $20 worth of nickels and found coins to fill in my collection, and a Canadian Nickel! (this is pretty rare, I live in the East USA)

Here in the suburbs of Philly, there's probably 40ish banks within 15 miles. It's nuts. And most banks won't charge you a fee if you have an account. I use TD Bank on and off and they haven't charged me ****.

Nice, I'm definitely thinking on making some phone calls tomorrow, it should save on gas. My cousin is actually a teller so I told her to keep her eye out for silver, halves, and anything that looks good.

I just did an initial sort of 20 cent rolls today. 2 Wheat Cents 1945, 59 S. 4 Canadians, 1965, 69, 76, 91. 1- 2009 D Capitol (LP4). A few 2010 D's and other 2009 D's. 1- 2009 D Log Cabin (LP1) that might have the double die logs ? It really pops from the ones I tried to compare to. Perhaps a much stronger strike ? And a 1990 D cent that has an imprint of a die rim offset ? It's weak, so I really can't tell for sure.

Here is a photo from my buddy who I posted about with his Friday haul from 1 $500 box. Interestingly enough, he's getting them from a BoA who claims they are getting coins from their own central vault. I've never seen that paper before...

Are you sure? The ones I get here are yellow and actually say strings and sons. These ones don't have any writing on them whatsoever according to my friend.

The new ones the bank gave me were light tan and very much like the one pictured.

Yep, I've busted open hundreds of those wrappers in Strings and Sons boxes, so I'd assume that they're Strings and Sons wrappers... what kind of bank would use two different suppliers for coin storage materials?

So out of the list of 20+ banks in my area that I made yesterday I only had to call the first three and two had halves. One had a roll plus some loose, and the other had $90 worth, I'm pretty sure they have been searched through already, the teller seemed to want to get rid of them badly, and when I asked if they had large dollars he said "I wish". No silver out of the $40 I took, but I did find a 1989-S in pretty nice shape. What is it, I only have a space for a 1989-P and 1989-D in my book. Is the S from a proof set or something? Did I find something good?

All S halves from a certain date (I want to say 1970?) are proofs.
