Hello, I was wondering if anyone could identify this coin for me? I believe it's Spanish but I'm unsure whether it is gold (no hallmark). Here are some pictures: The text reads: A IMAGEN DE DIOS LO CREO BN.1.17 Text reads: ASI DE NUMEROSA SERA TU DESCENDENCIA BN.15.5 I think the text may be from the book of Genesis. Thank you for any help, this coin has been a real conundrum!
It looks more like a medal or token (possibly issued by a private mint) rather than a coin issued by a governement mint. A coin would indicate the country of issue, the denomination and a date. The surfaces appear to be gold but it is entirely possible it is gold-plated. The core of the piece could be anything from silver (or gold) to worthless base metal. Does the 'CERTIFICADO DE GARATIA' say any more than what you have shown?
Aha, so that's what it says! Thank you for the translation, I wasn't having any luck. Would it be worth anything? I don't want to sell it for scrap Gold, that would be a shame! I have been told it may be from a religious festival.
sandra as doug has said its 22ct . and going by tonight prices . its worth apox $ 430 . it could be wroth more but its the first time i have seen the medal/coin . you need to find out who minted them and how many. hope this helps a bit. dave ps this just going on the images that was given.
Wow! Thank you everyone! I have done a bit more research and come up with the following: Minted by Numismática Europea (almost certain) They have a website: http://www.numisart-europa.com/ Here is a terrible translation of a line from their site: European Organization-Minting Coins Art-Official Users Commemorative coins are legal tender. I've sent them an email but haven't heard back yet. My coin isn't listed on their site but it looks very similar in style and design. I must say, it's quite exciting researching this coin! I'll post some better pictures soon.
That's about it. The only way you could get more for it would be if you vould find somebody who collected these medals, but even then you would unlikey to get much more.
Ok, more pictures! This is the back of the 'CERTIFICADO DE GARATIA'. When I put the address into Google I got the website in my last post. Information request slip? This reads: If you wish to receive information about our coinage, please return this completed coupon This mark on the coin is very indistinct. This is the clearest I could get it using a microscope at low magnification. This is where I feel a fool as it's clearly GN (not BN) making it Genesis, 15. 5: Then the LORD brought Abram outside beneath the night sky and told him, "Look up into the heavens and count the stars if you can. Your descendants will be like that--too many to count!" Genesis, 1. 7: And so it was. God made this space to separate the waters above from the waters below. I'm not sure if this will help much, thank you all anyway
It's not that I want more, I'm amazed it's worth that much! It's just I really don't want to sell it as scrap. I'm not going to part with it until I've learnt all I can and then I want it to go to a collector who'll appreciate it and maybe display it.
