Steve, There are many collectors who don't see the need for using TPG's at all. I am not one of those people. I prefer NGC graded coins but consider NGC and PCGS the elite two and the only two that I would ever use. Both are top notch (tier1) grading companies. Other companies like ANACS, ICG, and SEGS are second tier companies and all have reputation problems regarding their grading practices. My point is that you will be hard pressed to find another collector on this forum who is more supportive of the TPG's than me. Having said that, and Victor's support notwithstanding, this is what I think of ANACS. A picture is worth a thousand words. Paul
Yes Chris, That is very helpfull. I guess my goal is really to have them all done at once. If they take two months I dont care. But in the other thread I think it was you brought up the Overton attribution for my bust halves. That was a smart thing to point out. Steve
Yes Paul, Im sure at the end of the day I will be at NGC. I just admire Victor for his rational footing and standing his ground about his opinion. It is common news now though that a ton TPG service slabs that look very real come out of china. My underlying concern is if something should happen to me my wife & kids are gonna have to deal with unloading my coins on their own. I figured get em slabed so at least they stand a chance. Steve
I don't collect Busties, but I do know enough to realize that the correct attribution can be very important. I don't know if there are any Bust collectors, here, but there are some very knowledgeable in the series on the NGC forums. In any case, you would definitely want to talk to someone who can recommend the best alternative for you. Chris
If you are a frequent buyer of ngc coins id suggest reading this: http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewarticle.aspx?IDArticle=954 Before you buy your next NGC slabbed coin.
Hunt1, Your really on the ball. NGC claims to have the situation under control now with a number you can call or a web based authentication program but now slabs with the proper numbers and such are appearing. Seems like they stay a step ahead. A trip to E bay is all it takes. Steve
Remember that the reason I use ANACS is because they have a rep at the shows and it makes it so easy. Now if there wasn't a rep at the coin shows I'd probably pay the $200 and join the PCGS club.
