i don't do it very often, but if i decided to crack the slab i usually get the upgrade on my first try.
this was in 1995 or 1996... i bought a 1911 sandblasted Proof 64 NGC 2.5 IND for 21K from a dealer friend of mine.i immediately asked him to crack it out of the NGC slab and then about a month later i took the coin to Long Beach show and did the $100 PCGS walk through service and the coin came back PR65. i don't do it very often, but i always get the upgrade. my record is like 7-0.
I find that I'm usually with in one eather way on crack out's. I like to find properly grades ANACS or PCI crack them out and send to PCGS
7 times in 14 years? Good record, but I'm thinking this is not something I'd plan a retirement on. I think I'll continue with the slow and steady investment on PMs.
