This is a 1976 lincoln I dug from Georgia soil a couple of weeks ago. My first time using electrolysis cleaning. Is there a better way to clean a coin like this for display? Before and after pictures. I used stainless steel for the anode, tap water with lemon juice mixed for the electrolyte about 20 minutes of treatment.
I just run my clad through a tumbler for anything silver I usually just wash with water. I did have to dip a 1909 barber dime I found under a gum tree root in SC that the root had turned so black you couldn't really enjoy the coin. Ice
Is that a rock tumbler? My parents used to be rock hounds. What grit do you use on copper? Is it different for silver?
It is a rock tumbler and I use white aquarium gravel, water and a little dish soap. Just tumble Copper seprate or all the coins will look copper colored. Ice PS here's a link to a nice metal detecting forum I go by Icewater. http://www.treasurequestxlt.com/community/
