I bought the BSA Proof coin. It is the first time I bought something from the mint. I figure sooner or later I was going to have to pull the trigger and I was an Eagle Scout and really wanted the coin. Should I sign up to get the US mint sets every year? Tim
I am more of a non proof coin type of guy so if your into that type of things I say heck yea you should sign up for them. Its awfully late in the BSA game so I really hope you get a desirable coin. I am not experienced in buying from the mint but from what I have gathered from this wonderful site your best bet is to get in early......If signing up means you get first dibs I would do it............once again as long as thats your thing
It is my understanding that they will also be issuing a Girl Scouts commem, too, but how much do you want to bet that there will not be a boy included in that design. The values of most Modern Commems have been stagnant for many, many, many years, so if you are collecting them for appreciation in value, you might want to consider putting your money into something else. If you're collecting them simply because you like them, that's okay. Prior to 2005, collectors bought the Uncirculated Mint Sets because it was from these sets that they had the best chance of finding valuable, high grade business strikes. Since the Mint changed to the Satin Finish and the special handling required for these coins, 69's & 70's have become so commonplace that most do not justify the fees paid for grading them. Chris
nice buy, i plan on ordering from the mint soon, i just got to find something i like:rolling: i tried the boy scouts actually the webelos. i did like all the stuff in the book to earn a ton of badges and they wouldn't give them to me, because they said i did it to fast. (i understand now why they did what they did, but when you are ten years old it don't seem right.) if you collect mint sets, then why not sign up? if you change your mind after a year or two, you can just cancel.. again nice buy, i really like that proof coin.
Buy what makes you happy. I think the mint sets are a good deal (especially since 2005 and most especially since 2007)...low mintage, satin finish. Enjoy!. TC
My First Purchase was The Disabled Veterans Commerative. (which is now my avatar) Its a beatiful coin, especially if your a vet. I love it. Been thinking about getting the Boyscout one. tempting tempting....
The 2001 American Bison and the 2005 USMC 230th Anniversary are my favorites of all of the modern commems. I like the simplicity of the design on the USMC. Chris
