My apology! I've learned something new as far as Lincoln's are concerned. Thanks, Mike! Question: Why do they plate it after the planchet is cut? Would it have something to do with remelting the scrap clippings from the sheet? Or, is it because the layer is so thin that bonding the two into one sheet is not possible? Chris
If they copperplate the zinc before cutting the planchet there would be no protective coating on the edges and the zinc would start to rot as soon as it is exposed to a less than friendly enviroment. Richard
Since your on the subject of plating and upset mill, I have a question about the Steel Cents. Steelies are not plated on the edge, was the entire roll zinc plated before planchets were punched out?
