Hello Everyone, is anyone familiar with this type of penny roll?

I bought it off eBay today and the sellers claims it's genuine unsearched.

I've never seen a roll like this and it only holds 30 cents in pennies.

Maybe some celebration event? I'm not sure, the ends are tails to tails so I won't know until I open it, if I open it.

It's unusual to say the least, but I think eBay should ban anyone for life for using the word "unsearched" anywhere in their description.

Indeed! This is just another scam among the thousands on ebay.

This wrapper means NOTHING. It's not even an OBW roll. LOL It's just some modern wrapper made to look old.

I've seen these before, but I think this is the first 30 coin roll I've seen. These were created by one of the gimmick companies out there that sell the crap in the Sunday papers. The "own a roll for 4 easy monthly payments of $9.95" type of company.

I did some research and I couldn't find anything on it.
I found one Q & A about somebody asking about it, but in response he got more info about pennies in general rather than the wrapper itself.
It is kinda neat, it is probably a scam, but the collector in me would just want to have that roll for how cool the wrapper is.

After doing some searching, I found out that these were from a company called "International Home Shopping Network", so as is typical with such places, I'm sure it was originally an extremely overpriced roll of common Wheat Cents.

I think you all may be correct but the collector in me took over. I know all about the "Unsearched" epidemic on eBay but I do pretty good - so far.

I paid 26 bucks for it and didn't really want to pay that but -oh well. It only takes one good coin in there to make me happy and the seller had fantastic feedback with thousands of transactions. He also posted he wants to know what is inside because it is killing him not knowing as it is me but I'm still on the fence about searching it when it arrives.

As you well know, I think your only chance is if you can pull a decent doubled-die or RPM out of the bunch. You probably have the same experience I do with these "unsearched" rolls; yes, they are always searched for Key Dates, or in the case of BU rolls for those top-pop grades, but I find that most rolls have never been decently searched for doubled dies or RPMs.

    Good luck with it!

Exactly right.. some have been searched but for what , just key dates? I doubt many people get the loupe out or own a USB Microscope and go through them all as thoroughly as the serious collector. It's a risk, no doubt about it but I bank on human error and have done well. There is one or two sellers I stick with as well and have no doubts the rolls I have purchased havn't been searched since a company rolled them
in 40 - 50 years. You have to use instinct, logic and common sense and go easy on the Starbuck's when bidding. ( grin )

Unsearched rolls...yes we collectors hate the sales gimmick just like the TV shows that sell coins and any overpriced colorized crud. These things will not go away...why?
Well it's cause it's like a little Lotto ticket or a scratch off. People think they may hit a big one. That's human nature it seems.
I'm not for it but I'm not gonna bash someone that took the bait as I've fell for some things in my life too. And who's to say you dont get that coin :D
I wish you luck with it. And no I have not seen one of those rolls either. It is Unique.

    $26!?!?!?! Double Ouch.

I have searched hundreds of thousands of wheat cents and have NEVER found one of the key dates... and very very few semi keys...

I wish I could sell common date wheats at $.86 a coin.

Guess I just need some novelty rolls... and to loose my morals.

I found all three of these 1909's in the same roll from a seller I swear by.. the roll cost me 12 bucks. these are just three... every coin in his rolls have no dents on the rims and the surfaces are in great condition no matter the year.. you can just " Tell" they have not seen circulation for a very long time.

Morals? Just put them on ebay and they bid it up. You dont do anything wrong if you don't lie.
I'm not saying put up a roll and say "Never Searched Roll" or stuff the end with the reverse showing a "vdb" but they still bid like crazy. It's the lotto ticket feeling they bid on.

And Prospector, I wouldn't have bid anything near that but it's your cash. Bid what you want. Shoot at least you got something for it. Theres plenty of people that would blow more then that on a carton of smokes.
Good luck and I hope it turns out well.

PS I'd have to open them :D
