there has been some good ideas in this thread.

i like the ww2 idea, releasing a few with different reverses would be cool.

but i really like the "throwback"(thats what i am calling it) idea. the us mint will release each denomination in suit of what was used at the time. they could change it each year till they get caught up. not only would this be cool, but it could get people interested in collecting coins. when i show most people some of my coins, they have no idea how cool they used to be. also some of the old timers would love to see coins from there childhood again. i know when i showed my great aunt my new 1943 walker she got some enjoyment out of seeing a coin she used back when she was 13!

i never had a huge interested in the state quarters. but something like this, i would really love.

the only problem would be the confusion each year when they release the set. cashiers and civilians would have to learn what each coin is. it could be a big problem, but most coins have stayed the same exact size, so maybe not?

Glad you liked my idea, the only thing I think cashier would have a hard time with is the half dollar pieces, they freak out now when they see a kennedy half. Imagin if they brought back morgan dollar size coins for circultaion then these teens working at McDonalds would have heart attacks at the age of 16 not knowing what to do.

    Me too.
Except I think it's about time we make our coins sizes in accorcance with their values. So the Cent would be the smallest, then the Nickel, Dime, Quarter, Half Dollar and followed by a return of the large Dollar coins.
Of course with this change over all Obverses and Reverse would also have to change to accomodate the new system. All coins would be of the same material, thickness, non reeded edges. The obverses would all be made different each year with a past director of the Mint. The reverses would be in Peso denominations so HALF or more of our popuation can read them.:goofer:
OR just leave them as they are.

no pesos, i think they understand the dollar better then there own currency anyway, common they just switched to a new currency method and all the old pesos can't be used anymore.

I did always think it weird that the nickel was a larger coin than the dime and the dime smaller than a penny.

Any redesign on size or material would have to meet the needs of vending machine manufacturers and users, or else overcome their lobbying.

    No IGWT! Rejected!

Even though I think IGWT has no business being on our currency... We don't ALL trust in god, now...

yea, i wouldn't mind seeing them take it off. but it don't bother me and the difference is, it WILL bother the religious people.

And I say take it off because it doesn't represent our country as a whole. Forget them, this isn't an Us v. Them country, we stand together and stand for freedom of religion, which includes your right to not have faith.

There's a thread about this somewhere else, anyways. I'm done derailing this one. :)

As long as they don't put Reagan on it like the GOP is suggesting I'll be good with it.

    I like the posters' thoughts.

It would be cool to make a 'throwback' coin - like a present-day coin with an old design. They could just sell them in the standard US Mint slabs, and to avoid confusion, not put them into circulation.

I was looking at some Euro and Great Britain coins today, and they ALL LOOK THE SAME!! They don't even have good designs, either! After seeing those, I was 100% happy with the current US designs! :goofer:

(no offense to the Eurozone and Britain, by the way)

a "throwback" design would be perfect for circulation a recap of american history just like the state quarters in a way. Confusion I dont think will be as bad as one would think, heck when we changed the obverse of the quarter I didnt even know about it but I managed just fine.

Well, the obverse change of the quarter when the state quarters came around was very suttle. Changing the coin ENTIRELY on the obverse and reverse would cause confusion in those who aren't "the sharpest tool in the shed".

But for the general public, you're right. People would realize that it was still 'legal tender'.

This would be a great change if the were to redesign the FDR Dime.it high time we separate Church & State. I believe in God but not to the point were IGWT has to be on all USA Notes & Coinage .
