Don't know how I missed this thread -- some beautiful Walkers. Here's one (thanks to Todd of BluCC for the image):
I won't even try to offer a grade but I got a question for you. What is going on under the "ITE" of UNITED on the reverse of your 1941 ? It looks like there are other letters or numbers punched ?
You got the correct area marked but I have no idea what it could be. I definitely doesn't look random nor organic , it seems that there is some order to it.
Not my coin ... but these "pattern" walking liberty coins were produced in 1916 ... although extremely rare with prices ranging today from $50,000 to $130,000 ... a few made it into circulation ... imagine stubling across this rarity in pocket change back in the 1960's ... so strange seeing the large LIBERTY above the In God We Trust motto.
I did a search on the web for that photo ... it might be the same photo as in the redbook (not sure) A pattern coin is an "experimental design" coin used to see how potential new designes might look when struck as coins ... There are sometimes several pattern struck before a final pattern is approved.
Here are some I posted on another thread awhile back. None are mine, just the imaging. Raw Proof NGC PR66 Cameo PCGS MS66 PCGS MS66 PCGS MS65 PCGS MS66 NGC MS65* - should be PL as well
