Nice coins everyone, some great examples!!

  4. Kangayou, I just bought an example of an Austrian 10 heller earlier this week, although I bought an 1895 example. I hadn't remembered until I got home that I had previously had an 1895 2 heller. Neat coincidence!

Thanks for the compliment , but my avatar is only a 1880 Un Peseta minted in Lima. My goal is now to get the 1882 1/2 real & 1882 5 Peseta both from the Ayacucho Mint , so that I can have pretty coins that are also valuable. This particular Peseta design coinage was only minted for 3 years (1880-1882) , in Lima & Ayacucho.

Regarding some of the South American coinage that contains volcanoes , I would have to say my favorites are also from Peru. If you check out the 1837 & 1838 8 Reales & 8 Escudos designs of Southern Peru that were minted at the Cuzco & Arequipa Mints. I would love to collect an example of each denomination from those specific mints and dates !

As mentioned, I have gotten away from coins as of the past 4 years..if I recall correctly, Silvereagle 82 has a fantastic collection of World Gold!!

Maybe he will post the link here??

Now if we can only get our hands on the 1892 2,5 & 10 hellers we could have pretty coins that are also worth a bundle. I'd even settle for some 1892 proofs:rolleyes:

Eduard, those chile coins are great, beautiful volcanoes.
Jello, I really like your Italian 5 Lira... Beautiful design with the eagle on the fasces, reminds me a bit of some ancient Roman coin designs. Very cool coin, and even more special since it came from your father. Did he ever tell you the story behind it? like where he aquired it?

kangayou, seems like we share a taste for the Peru Peseta coinage. I have yet to add an Ayacucho issue 5 pesetas to my collection, let alone the 1/2 real. That one will be tough (and expensive!). Others I really like are the 1885 Cuzco 1/2 Dinero, and the elusive Arequipa 1/5 Sol. You can't have it all.....

rexesq, thank you for your compliment about the Chile Volcano coins. They are really nice pieces. They have become very popular in the last few years, and the rarer dates seldom appear on the market. I am glad I built my collection many years ago when they were more available.

    Republic of Liberia

I don't collect world coins but this caught my eye when I thought it was a U.S. Trade Dollar (DMPL Cameo) .The reverse is different from our trade Dollars but a nice design.

It's interesting how that Liberia ten dollars coin has an 'S' mintmark on the bottom of the reverse. Liberia does some interesting coins.... I have one with George W. Bush on the obverse...

I was wondering the same thing if Liberia actually mints their own coins ?

Seems Liberia has most of it's coins minted elsewhere. I can't seem to find yours in my world coins book. Alot of their modern coins have US style designs. The reverse of this GW Bush one resembles that of a JFK half dollar. The coins of Liberia from the early 1900s are beautiful, I have no examples, but maybe someone can put one up.

    Hawaii Quarter

The 1883 Quarter is the only one that is still reasonably priced as far as i can find.
This is one of the five official issues minted for the Kingdom of Hawaii. United States Mint Chief Engraver, Charles Barber, began preparing the master dies and hubs for the coinage in 1881. These dies would later be modified by Mint Director Horatio C. Burchard. The coins for circulation were minted in San Francisco between November 1883 to June 1884 (all were dated 1883).The coinage was not legal tender after 1900, when the islands became a United States territory. Original mintage was 500, 000 pieces, but 257, 400 were melted.

My favorite coin, has been the same nearly as long as I have been collecting, I got it for only $12 at an antique shop and have loved it ever since. I remember when I first started collecting world coins, this was the first coin that I saw in a coin guide that made me say WOW I wish I could get one of those and soon after I did!
