That's fantastic. I normally find one silver in a box of dimes (or a shutout). CONGRATS!!!!

That's great! But how come my weekend dime box searches don't turn out like yours?!?!? Mine seem to go: Zilch, Zilch, TWO MERCURY, Zilch, Zlich. Sigh...:crying:

Box 4 of 4 finished up. Results:

    1 90%
    2 40%
    18 2001-2005 NIFC

The NIFC's are discolored and stained in a strange way (almost burnt looking---every one in the same way, like they may have been in a fire?). Whoever had them may have just spent them. I am attempting to remove the staining by soaking them overnight in vinegar---and it seems to be working! I know, I know, before you flame me for cleaning coins, trust me as ugly as they are it can only help---besides, they aren't THAT valuable (especially the way they are now!)

Now, I wait for Thursday for my next 4 boxes---

    hamman88 Spare some change, sir?

I think if any of us worked in a bank we would be fired in a day for going through the vault.

I think you should check the current thread about using ammonia bath to clean them. I have not tried it yet, but it is supposed to be the best weay to restore your coins.

Thanks, I'll check that out---I appreciate it.

If they aren't clean in the morning, I'll try the ammonia.

    Halves last week:

    Box 1: nothing
    Box 2: nothing
    Box 3: nothing
    Box 4: 2-90%, 17-40%
    Box 5: 1-40%
    Box 6: nothing

Went to 28 banks Friday, got a total of $443 in a combination of CWR, strings rolls, and loose. Y'all ready for this......................................?

Yeah, no silver found. Talking about a kick in the hoo-hahs.

Only burned a barrel of fuel driving around, stopping at every bank like a crazy idiot.

Ouch, I know how that feels. When we first started last summer I had a number of those days....brutal

    BTW where abouts are you?

Thanks, I have never searched dimes so I gather that is a good haul. My bank forgot to order my halves so I needed something to keep me going. 3 boxes of dimes, 1 box of quarters and a box of pennys kept me off the streets. My banks coin machines were working overtime.

I live in Siloam springs, Arkansas, but was searching in the Tulsa area. Congrats on the finds, that's awesome.

What are your overall silver counts now?

    Up to date count

I will hit one year of roll searching at the end of this month. We had a lot of success the first 4-5 months and then it slacked off. The last 3 months I have been getting a lot from tellers, two bit hits from CWR and not much from boxes except for 2 good ones. Boxes have really dried up compared to what they were 9 months ago. I have 4 or 5 good banks that seem to be getting silver turned in regularly from customers and that is my main source. I have cut down to only 1-3 boxes most weeks ( I used to search 7 a week but just easier to rely on the tellers).

Anyway, almost a year now but silver total:

41 Walkers (5 came from just last Friday and 10 in one roll a while back)
41 Franklins (6 came from just last Friday)
    176 1964's
    1014 40%er's
    1 1940 Canadian Half
    2 1976S Silver
    1275 Total Silver Halves

Almost a year of work and some people in other parts of the country seem to find that in a few trips to the bank lol.

Awesome haul, Erin, especially in the Frankie and Walker dept!

Box 4 of 4 for this weekend yielded:
    1 1964
    1 1966
    3 1968

    So, a pretty good box.

If that doesm't do it, then it's acetone. I believe it is safe to soak in acetone, but ammonia is more of a dipping process. Read the posts on cleaning before you try anything though, because you can ruin them.

    tiag12 w/out the penny we'd all

This week I will be going through my 1940 - 2010 pennies. If anyone is interested in the pennies I do not need from my hoards would there be an interest to list what I have or would anyone want to make an offer on a grab bag + shipping?
