Now, after making that statement, you don't think it's odd that not only do we believe there are two out there but they've been in the inventory of the same dealer?

Either they are more common than we think and somebody else has some or something seems fishy.

While interesting, it is not a coin I would consider buying. I doubt PCGS would slab it and I wonder if NGC would today (the slab is an older generation NGC slab). Also, it's hard to tell how juiced the photo is.
For what it's worth, I also doubt the two coins are the same. NGC has graded over 400 of these in PR66 so they are quite common.

The closeup looks a bit 'color enhanced' to me. The shots in the holder actually look more realistic and I personally like them better.

I guess we'd have to ask which looks more like the coin in hand.

I know I use various features to change the appearance so that the photo matches the coin in hand as much as possible. These features could also be used to distort the photos to make the coin's appearance look better than in hand.

Then again, toning depends on perspective too.

I guess I should read the entire thread before posting.

By the way, It's the same coin with different photography. There's a marker beneath and parallel to the left bottom of the L of Liberty on both photos and a 'dot' below that. Jello mentions the marker at 9 O'clock by the feather as well in the next post.

I am sure but I think it is the same coin.take a look the marks by the feather match up.and the toning on the rev matches too.
I maybe wrong but they look like the same coin lehigh96 has photoed.
But there not way I would pay a cent more the $1500.00 a lime green Buffalo is odd but not wroth almost 3k

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I was going to say the exact same thing. I'm guessing it looks much more like the slab shots. Toning on nickels generally tends to be much more subtle, and often more pastel, than the toning on silver. If its not, I begin to doubt its authenticity.

I believe they are two distinctly different coins. The toning pattern on the reverses are different.

I think jello should make an offer on it!

While I think the photography is the difference, the markers could be on the dies and give the illusion of being the same coin.

I really can't match any markers between the two coins. I'm sure Brandon would be happy to answer this if someone would care to contact him. He has been on the boards for many years and I have never heard a bad word about him.

Adrian was something else. He could create lots of drama.
Only a tiny few probably know the real truth about him.

A story that I am aware of, but for simplicity's sake and the purposes of this thread, Adrian's stated cover story is sufficient.

You can I do not need a Proof Buffalo unless it 24kt Gold!
:kewl: nickle not worth $1500.00 to me

Same coin. Look at the reverse just below the ES of STATES. A identical spot appears below the ES.

There is NO way those are the same coin. They both have a mark near the feather but in no way are they the same mark. The left coin has a single toning spot there while the right coin has wood grain like toning in that whole area. On the buffalo the left coin has a slash mark on top of the buffs shoulder. The right coin has a slash well down the buffs shoulder towards the leg.
The toning, namely the size and location of the red areas are COMPLETELY differnet on both sides. The left coin reverse is toned in GREEN and YELLOW the right coin reverse is toned in GREEN and RED. The obverse left has more red while the right obverse has more yellow.

You speak in the past tense. Did he croak or reform his ways?

No clue about where he really is today but he did pop back into CU a while back for some reason. Don't know if the thread or threads got poofed.

He was a regular poster on coinchat relatively recently and a couple other forums I have seen.

To answer majorbigtime, he got croaked (here, anyway) after repeatedly violating forum rules.

Brandon takes great looking photos... he is also the one who imaged the 1909 Indian Cent in my avatar photo.

That said, before even considering a purchase of this coin I would have to see it in hand to see how it looks... I would never make a purchase decision based on his photos alone, but his photos would be enough to have him ship me a coin or two for approval.

I really like brilliant proof buffalo nickels, but I'd much rather have an untoned example with great mirrors and a showing some cameo effect :)

Adrian was posting here? I totally missed it. User name? Maybe a different Adrian?

Coinchat, not cointalk. Toad's forum. His name was BCNumismatics.

If you are really interested in Aidan, you might try reading this (from another thread). It is about toad, but has several referenced to aiden

Gotta agree with you on that statement! This thread is a little bit on the high end side for my purposes. I guess I'll head back over to the poverty stricken side of the forum! :D

 Are "Adrian" and "Aidan" one in the same, or are you guys referring to two different people? "Aidan" is in New Zealand, he's obsessed with everything to do with the British Commonwealth and he's been booted from practically every coin forum on the internet. :eek:dd:
