Yes, I was looking at that one the other day, I only wonder what it looks like in hand.

$1,940 is the Numismedia retail price.

    $1,900 is PCGS's retail price

Very unusual to have so much of this color on a proof nickel.

This coin is very intriguing to me. Some of you may already know this but the seller of that coin is actually Brandon Kelley. Brandon joined up with Jhon E Cash who sells high end currency and they have formed a coin and currency team. Brandon was also responsible for the daily operations of Ananconda Rare Coins under the ownership of Adrian Crane before Adrian retired and moved to Costa Rica.

I was a loyal customer of Anaconda Rare Coins and I studied their inventory endlessly. They once offered a spectacular lime green toned proof 1937 Buffalo Nickel. I saved the photo because it was the most incredible brilliant proof Buffalo I had ever seen.

I have compared these photos for 20 minutes and although they don't look like the same coin, I can barely fathom the chances that there are two lime green toned proof 1937 nickels out there in NGC PF66 holders. What say you guys. Are they the same coin?

Thanks for the background info on the coin and dealer/sellers.

No way those are the same two coins. Surfaces seem quite different on obv/rev of each coin.

Paul, I think those two are different coins.
I can't see anything that indicates to me they are different coins.
Paul, what did that first one (not the one discussed in the link of this thread) go for?

My guess is that they are different coins. Also, I had believed that Brandon was doing the imaging for Jhon E Cash and that he did not own the coins.

Everything I can point at say those are not the same coins. They made 5700 proofs that year. I guess 2 wound up looking similar.

    Tom,

Brandon is listed on the website as numismatic expert and web designer with a photo. That sounds like much more than a simple photographer to me. Now I have no doubt that Jhon supplies the capital and owns all of the coins, but I would be inclined to believe that Brandon is doing the buying and selling. I have not purchased a coin from them yet but I will let you know if I get any more information.

The smaller images in the auction are somewhat juiced to enhance the green tint, the slab images are more representative of the actual coin. Must be the copper in the matrix that was exposed to something that is not normally found in the ambient atmosphere. Interesting colors.

Lehigh, the first coin you posted looks to be more well struck. I'm guessing their different, with the first one looking nicer :)

When I first looked at that image I thought of Brandon. As I read the thread I thought I spend too much time looking at this stuff.

Adrian didn't actually retire to Costa Rica--is is a long and somewhat perverse story.

I believe they are two different coins, both of which I find to be unnatural looking and unattractive. At least you cannot call the indian a paleface!
