So i am looking to buy this 1878 morgan dollar sanfransico mint with a grade of MS64 and it has NGC next to sanfrancisco. Would you guys reccomend buying this over the internet or in the shop, i dont know if they sell it in the shop.

    Heres the link:

If yous croll down to the bottom of the 1878 it shows the NGC one for 95 dollars.

Do you think its counterfit or what?

You would do well to learn much more before you spend your hard earned money on coins.

Pics, pics, where's the pics? This guy is selling you something in an NGC holder graded '64 and he's not letting you see how it looks. There's an old saying on these forums: "buy the coin, not the holder". Unless you can actually see what you're buying I'd suggest you pass this one up.

If he's a reputable dealer selling NGC and PCGS (ANACS) coins chances are he's legit.

Alright, and for $95.00 would a 1878 morgan dollar that is in MS-64 grade by NGS be about the correct price?

    Agree 100%.
If you are worried about a coin being counterfeit in an NGC holder you need to learn much more about coins.

You need to learn more about coins before you start buying. If you don't choose to follow the advice that you are given, you may as well spend your money on burn ointment because you will need it.

This is the second thread you have started on this coin. Perhaps you should read the other comments. I think this has been answered more than once.

    Correction.....this is the third thread.

OH i get it!!! sorry im dumb. So basically the NGC means it was inspected by NGC and is probably in a NGC case. And you guys were saying that all along!

Oh dear, I just saw those other threads. Hunt, old fellow, you are going to have to "arm" yourself with a little knowledge before you go out into the world of collecting. Especially Morgans. When you have to ask folks to post a picture of the difference between a fine and very fine coin you really shouldn't be buying anything. You are going to have to learn how to grade, at least on an elementary level, before you should even consider buying anything.

You might want to try visiting the open forum on this site. I am sure someone has a nice NGC or PCGS common date Morgan Dollar to sell you.

Not only would I recommend getting that, but I also recommend sticking around here, and soaking up as much as you coin. ;)

Redbook is always very good for basic knowledge, a book called 'Photograde' has always been one of my favorites.
among a thousand other good coin books, check your local book stores, for new and used books. Watch the auctions on ebay and Teletrade to see prices. DONT BID! just watch LOL
    read, read, read
go to local shops and dig though the 'bargain bins' for a few coins that are a dollar or less. Use those to get an 'in hand' feel for the grading concepts in the books.

heres a useful visual grade webpage

    http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/Morgan/Grades

the more I study, the more my 62s look like 55s LOL
