Where to buy coins?

And I could even recommend that dealer. But from the initial post I gathered that online dealers were not an option. Personally I search a range of online dealers for what I might need plus the auction houses. If I can find two quality coins one a dealer and one an auction I try to win the auction. At the same time I want to win the auction cheaper than the dealer, otherwise I would prefer to deal with one of the trusted dealers I have used before. At the same some of the coins I am looking for are tough to find in prices I am willing to pay. Patience is a key at times.

 

By high end I should have said higher end. But if its a nice coin at a good price the price does not matter. I probably would cap myself at $1,000 per but that covers a wide range.

Type does not matter I just mean coins in general. I like pretty much anything that came out of the US mint. I am not too fond of morgans. Though I do buy some. I like alot of type coins and early 1900s silver in higher grades. Also like barber coinage in high grades. I like gold also but for me its best to avoid right now because its very inflated right now and I do not personally believe it will stay that way.

 

Try Stacks. They seem to always have a great selection of the high end coins I am looking for (even though I am on a buying freeze for now).

 

The guy who has that is a member of the local coin collecting club. He is eventually going to open a brick and morter but as of know he has not done so. He mainly sells at the club meetings and at events. Not out of anywere specific. I hope he does open one soon though

 

Coin depot is out of Greenville Sc which is about two and a half hours from me. Paul Simms is out of Va I think

 

He's got a nice stockpile of stuff. He should open a place in a farmers market or something... cheap rent. Antique malls work pretty well too.

 

He is planning on opening in the next year but at this present moment he also has another full time job which he will have to quit if he does this full time.

 

The Farmers Market around here has two guys who sell coins... the market is only open Friday and Saturday, so I'm sure they both hold down FT jobs elsewhere.

 

Don't worry about it! It's not hard to get confused when someone doesn't explain themnselves clearly. Besides, there are a lot of collectors who do not consider $1,000 higher end anyway.

That was a little un-necessary. Just my opinion but he was just trying to get the right info so he could give you a good answer. Man, some people can be very rude

Really I am not looking for a flame war here. I just want to know a good spot to buy coins since ebay is drying up. You quote 2 separate parts of what I was trying to ask and then act confused.

Right you are about a $1,000 coin not being high end. Especially when you have 1794 SP66 dollars going for 7.85 mil. I bet the new owners would not even give me a picture of it for that. But what I was trying to imply in a nice way is that I am not looking to buy a "$12 wheat cent for $3". since the member that posted that was purely trying to be helpful I tried to clarify in a polite way. So it seems that may be where some of the confusion came in.

I am looking for higher grade to uncirculated pre 1932 quarters. Pre 1916 dimes and halves. I am lookin for them uncertified at reasonable prices. Hopefully this clears things and does not confuse you.

The mercs I bought from teletrade were far from high end, but definitely some nice coins for the money. It just was not fun spending $40 to buy $80 in coins. Is there anyone who really blames me for that?

 

No one is blaming you for that. We were all try to help out until that comment came out. You made that comment and it was very condescending. You may not have intended it that way but that is the way it looked to all of us on the other end

 

If you are looking for high end Barber coinage, you really should stick with Heritage. Regarding the buyers premium, place your bid so that the price including buyer's premium is your maximum price. That is what everyone else does.
