i've been out of circulation for the past 10 yrs now,so i really don't know what's going on in the coin market these days. i remember when PCGS and NGC first got started in the early 90's PCGS coins always fetched more $$$ than NGC for the same graded coins.

There are previous threads on this subject. PCGS fans will say "they always do". Others will say "not always". Pick your choice.

One note, some coins in PCGS holders sell for more, and will cost you more.

I think that is correct or at least it should be. All about the coin and not the holder. :)

For the majority PCGS coins do sell for more money.
Sometimes it does depend on the population reports, so it varies from coin to coin in series from series.
I think there are just more Kool-Aid drinkers out there. I've posted this photo so many times the last few weeks...I'm just glad I find so many threads to use it on :D

no,not really...back in the 90's PCGS was more strict on type coins than NGC,but with gold pieces NGC was on par with PCGS. JMO :)

Everybody nowadays makes the argument that PCGS is so much more consistent with their coins, and I'd be willing to bet that NGC is consistent with theirs also.
Some people prefer to get certain series graded at different TPG's.
Honestly, I go with getting the best coin for my money, it could be PCGS or NGC, I choose between those two due to a resale factor. (Not buying ANACS/ICG unless I absolutely love the coin, and also PCGS/NGC can be entered in a registry, while others cannot)
If I can get the same coin in an NGC holder, at a lower price versus a PCGS holder, as long as I at least get what I paid for, I'm okay. Of course when time comes to sell I don't look for just braking even, but you get the idea.

Each company has their own proprietary grading standards and they do their best to adhere to their standards. The market has reacted to these standards with its valuation of a given coin. In general, a PCGS graded coin will sell for as much or a little more than an NGC graded coin for classic US coinage and will sell for even more relative to an NGC graded coin for modern US coinage.

I think a lot has to do with PCGS bringing more money is the fact that PCHS does not let any other TPGer in there registry sets. There are a lot of people out there who only compete in the PCGS registry and since they can not use NGC for there registry, the PCGS coins are bringng more money. This is just my opinion

As always, make sure you are not a "slab zombie" and make sure you buy the coin and not the holder.
