one of the banks i went to called me, and said someone came in with halves and dollar coins. even if the dollars are ikes, i don't care, i still want them. i plan on a set sooner or later and you can't go wrong for face. unless they are '69, '72, '88, or '90, because i have them ones.

I get the Ikes and use them in my store. Customers love them, came across a ROLL of bicentennial ikes a couple days back, so cool.

    Pulled 1 '35 Walker, 1 '63 Franklin, 1 '64 Kennedy, and 5 40% clads, all P's, today. Not a bad box at all.

Did my last 5 rolls of dimes this morning. ZIP. No tech for the A/C yet and they were supposed to be here between 10 & 2. Now 2:11 and not even a courtesy call. Starting to get my blood warm. Good thing it's only 108 at my place, or I would be getting angry. LOL

Don't get your hopes up. I found nothing but crappy clads in my previous $2k or so worth of boxes. Everything averages out, though...

    Recycling searched coins

Would anyone happen to know how, when and why CWR's are recycled into machine wrapped rolls?

Does the bank give the CWR's to their box suppliers and exchange them for the MWR's (to Loomis, Wells Fargo, Strings & Son, etc.)? Or, do they just keep them on hand as CWR's?

I'm trying to figure out whether or not my "dump" bank sends CWR's to be recycled---so that I don't run the risk of getting boxes of halves that I have already searched. And, if so, is this done locally, regionally or at some central location nationally then redistributed back down to the local level?

I'm also trying to determine if CWR's have a higher percentage of "keepers" or is their a higher risk of those rolls having already been searched? Better chances with boxed MWR's? What's your opinion (or real life results)?

Looking forward to your experiences and feedback---:)

That's a question for a Branch Manager or something... I can tell you most banks here in the densely populated area from Boston down to DC-Baltimore have coin counting machines. You take your money in, dump it in the machine, it counts it for you, you go to the teller, get cash. The only banks that don't have them would be smaller, local branches, and because of the prevalence of coin counting machines, it's rare that you find CWR's at these smaller, local banks.

BTW, you could have machine wrapped rolls from Brinks or something, and TD Bank would make you open them and dump 'em in.

I've noticed better odds with CWR's around here, but as I said, they're hard to find, if not impossible.

I guess I should add, then, that in my area (S. Louisiana), very few banks have coin counting machines. Also, after I search my halves, I roll them myself, then use the original boxes to bring back to my bank---

Usually when i turn in a lot of dimes (a box or two) to my dump bank, they say they have to dump them into bags ( the same bags the coin machine uses) and ship them out, but what never made sense to me was if they started to charge me because they get charged to order boxes, why wouldn't they just keep extra boxes/rolls that i turn in, that would be much more economical.

P.S. vault space wouldn't be an issue, the banks has 2 vaults.

I'd love to get about $10k worth of halves from somewhere down there and just go through them. Bet you get a lot more than the paltry 0.05% (1 in 200) that I get for any silver.

My average has been (from boxes) about 10 silver per 200 rolls (4 boxes). Of that, maybe 1 out of 20 silvers is a 90%er.

Hmm, unusual. I'm interested in seeing what my girlfriend reports from NH. Maybe we should start to chart this and come up with an idea of how the remaining silver in rolls is distributed around the country... hey, hey, summer project!

My bank will only take them in rolled but then dumps them into bags and Loomis picks them up. I really wish they would let me just bring them in loose since they break them open.

Point out the hypocrisy to a manager and see what they say. Can't hurt to try, and even if it does... screw it, it's your dump bank.

i got 2 rolls of nickels and a roll of pennies from my girlfriend. the pennies were no good. all 70's and up. there were two that are like deep dish, not sure whats going on there?

the nickels were fun, because i am going to do a circulation set. i got alot of "D"'s and am happy with that because you find more "P"s around here. i got pretty much everything from 76 and up(missing a few "p"s and 3 years).

    the older stuff i got was a 1940-p, 63-D, 64-D x5, 65-p, 68-S, 69-D, 71-D, plus some more from the '70's.

i was happy especially with the '40 and '68-S..

I have been getting some CWR's. In fact all my last $100 of halves were. But the coin machines here charge 8-9% for counting. I think more people take the time to roll the themselves. So they look at every coin.

CWR's from around here mostly come from... ah, senior citizens or estates that are just cashing them in, I think. I really, really need to start hitting up more estate auctions around here and seeing what they've got that may be of interest.
