2000P JFK Half- What coin was used on the reverse?

    I'd say that that was done after it left the mint and is therefore just a damaged coin.

    PMD? Are you sure? ;):D As to whether it's damaged is only a subjective matter depending on what kind of a collector you are. Those who collect counterstamped coins would tend to disagree with you. Those who collect for typical numismatic reasons, seeking original surfaces and varying grades without alterations would agree it's a damaged coin. Safe to say it can be both for different reasons.

    I wonder if it was kind of a test to imprint the coin and not damage the obverse?

    I think the eagle was just showing off. After it joined the ANA, it went to a tattoo parlor.
