I had a cheap item on ebay, under $10 and I was just notified that the person who won the auction paid with an echeck!! WTH, my ad specifically says PayPal only! Has this happened to you and what are my options?

My ads even say NO echecks. Still get one every hundred sales. You need to wait a week until it clears. People that use them apparently can't read.

Don't Fret. Just get bored waiting for the payment to make it into your PayPal account.

I sold an item that was EChecked and it took two weeks for paypal to clear it. But it is a form of PayPal~ness payment.

The one time I was paid with an echeck payment only took 4 days, go figure.
    Quite a simple transaction.

If you don't have a PayPal balance, the money is drawn from your linked checking account. I'm not sure why anyone with have a problem with this, as all the PayPal safety/security features are in place.

    Geez.

Chill out. Have you ever paid for anything with Paypal?

e-check is just another GUARANTEED way you'll get your money.

Ok, no more frettin'. I trust you guys that it'll be alright, besides it's under $10 so I can't cry too hard about that! :D

99% of buyers pay by PP within minutes/hours of an auction closing. You ship the item just as quickly. If you sell five plus item everyday, you prefer not having one guy, who can't get a credit card, make you wait 4-14 days to see if his check clears.

Except it takes 3 - 5 days for the money to clear.

It may be that the buyer has linked his PayPal directly to his financial institution's checking account. People do that so PayPal transactions behave like instant wire transfers. However, until the direct link is confirmed in the interim, purchases are made by echeck. Usually direct links take 3 to 4 business days.

How is this coin chat related?

It 'happens' to many because e-checks are specifically a form of payment allowed by PayPal and your ad specifically condoned the use of that form of payment.

Your options??? Learn how PayPal works and decide whether or not you will continue to do business through PayPal in the future.

It is your responsibility to read and understand the terms and conditions of the service, before you get involved in something you disagree with.

The number of complaints on these forums about eBay, PayPal and the various services provided by parcel carriers goes on and on for the simple reason that few take the time to read and understand the nuances and policies of these services beforehand. By the time they discover something they disagree with, it's too late and you are bound by the terms and conditions of the service.

There are other forums for eBay and PayPal where such questions can be posed and discussed. There's no reason to prompt Coin Chat for off topic advice regarding these service providers.

This question has nothing to do with coins or numismatics... It should have been placed in General Discussions, if posted at all.

Almost all of my purchases paid for with Paypal are eChecks. I don't sell on ebay so I don't have funds coming into my paypal account, and I dn't see why I should bother transferring funds from my checking account to sit in my paypal account until I just happen to meed them for a payment. So when I need to make a payment I use paypal, and they transfer the funds from my checking account as an echeck. If someone REALLY doesn't want a echeck that's fine, they can wait for payment for four or five days while I transfer the funds into my Paypal account so I can then make a instant funds transfer to them. Should just delay them geting paid by an extra two or three days longer than it would if I had paid them by echeck in the first place.
