Exactly. Cash the money order before you send him the coin.

I agree that that note has SCAM written in big bold letters. On another note, I would suggest that your first picture be your second picture - you want the picture of the coin in the slab to stand out, to be the 'preview' that people see. Right now, you just have the reverse of an average looking lincoln cent. I know you put that first because that is where the error is, but you won't be able to see the error on the preview pic. Maybe it's insignificant, and maybe some would disagree with me, but i think you'd get more hits if you switched the pictures around. You said you're a beginner ebayer so that's my two cents to get your future auctions more views.

also, spend the extra 75 cents and double list your coin in the ERROR section!

Thanks for the advice, I waffled between which picture to put first and actually had it the other way first. I could not figure out how to do that, otherwise I would have. Let me see if I can change it now.

Since there are no bids, you should be able to do it. If it had a bid, i don't think you'd be able to. If would give you step by step directions on how to do it if I could recall - but it shouldn't be too hard.

Well, the listing fees might be free per the promo, but you are still going to pay a final value fee if it sells... It doesn't sound like an item you are really wanting to AUCTION as much as just SELL... If you are dead set on 200 then you really should set a Buy-it-now at $200, and lower the starting bid way down, and then set a reserve also if you just can't afford to take less than the 200...

As for the offer, it was no offer at all... Scammers will offer money orders because they are easily forged or stolen... Many times they will offer you more than you are asking... Look at the guys feedback number and you will almost certainly find that it is a newly created account with no buys or sales... Report him and don't respond to him with ANY info... If he can pay the 200 then he would have no problem bidding and trying to win it, and then paying with paypal... When I used to ebay, I got offers like that on virtually EVERY high-dollar item I ever listed....

I heard that on these "free" listing promotions the percentage you pay eBay on the final selling price is actually higher then if you paid the normal price for the listing. Can anyone confirm this?

Again I am new to this so just bouncing ideas off you all. What is the benefit to an auction started at $1 with a $200 reserve versus just starting the auction at $200? Again, because the listing fee was waived on this item, I did not pay a premium for the $200 start price, and I would have paid more for the reserve. I know the price of those things is not much, just trying to work this out.

I did check the background of the guy that made the offer. I would have expected the same thing as you, little activity, and shady feedback, but the guy had 436 feedbacks all positive and it looked like the account had been pretty active. I am not going to deal outside of ebay on this item at all, I don't want to risk it.

maybe the guy hacked someones account or he is desperate and just wants to scam someone. its sad that the first thoughts that come in our mind, when selling things are "this could be a scam". i guess thats just how it is though.

i stopped selling on ebay in 2005 i think(when i had 3 xbox 360's on launch day). i had 5 princes of somalia trying to send me money orders for $1000's of dollars over what they won the console for! it was such a hassle to keep re-listing them and going through the procedures to get the listing fees back.

as for starting it at $1. more people will watch the item thinking it may go cheap and some people will start bidding. once a few people bid, they may figure to try and go for it, getting into a small bidding war and just try and win it for as little as they can. it may sound far fetched, but it does happen. if they don't start bidding you at least got the free advertising, since people will be watching it. at least for me, everytime i log in and see a nice coin i am watching, it tempts me to start bidding. i have given into my temptation before:(.

You get more buyers involved with the lower start price. You get more buyers to bid, and to feel they have a "stake" in your coin, when they place a bid. They then will continue to hopefully bid up the final sales price.

Plus, don't forget the snipers... one or two may already have an eye on your coin and won't bid until the very last second of the auction.

One thing I noticed is you can't see the complete front of the holder

    That's from http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/currstamps.html

Thanks a lot for the info, I actually had not read those requirements. When I get home tonight I will replace the front picture with one that shows the full holder per the requirements.

Since it's a 1983 coin, you only need to show the full front
