I looked at all the major coin forums before I joined CT. I eventually selected CT because it looked like the best independent forum.

I didn’t want to worry about censure at the CU forum if I bad mouthed PCGS or censure at NGC to I had something bad to say about them. Both PCGS and NGC are successful businesses and they have to protect their interests. I understand and even sympathize with them, but I don’t want to post under those rules.

Seriously, how can one even say that this forum is specifically for one type of collector, and any forum for that matter!

Collectors Universe is the only forum I can think of that comes close, but they still have every day, regular ole' Joes over there.

Peter brought up a good point, in a lot of cases, we cannot tell a member's financial status. Sure there are a few instances, if somebody buys a new $500 coin every week, I would assume they make good money to do so, but by no means do I think they are dirty rotten filthy stinking rich. You can't tell a person's situation by the way they type, or the coins they buy.

You might be able to tell a little something about their lifestyle or education by the way and things they say in their typing, but that is only natural.

Tom, care to further explain on this forum being fit for those only in the upper class?

    Upper tier? Ha!

I'm a new member, but I am pretty much constantly broke. My bank account balance right now shows $528, but I have to put $300 on my CC, $130 for car insurance, and $60 for my phone. Plus, my car needs new tires ($400-$500) and rent is due in 2 weeks ($600 is my share), plus student loans ($250)...

You get the picture. I am pretty much insolvent if you ignore my stock holdings, which are, admittedly, somewhat large for my age.

PCGS is really the only forum that is severely censored. :computer:

NGC lets you speak/type your mind without worrying about getting kicked off.

Schatzy, thanks for the info about NGC. I do spend some time lurking at PCGS, I guess I will add NGC to my list.

I’m not much of a poster by nature, but I will reserve my occasional posts for CT.

Dude, this thread is a year old and I am laffin out loud.
Why do you constantly bring up the 300,000 reason thingy? Ask ANY person on this forum if I have EVER been stodgy, stoogy, snootish, or turned my nose up at a $2 full Liberty Indian Cent of a nice VF 1925 Lincoln.....It's about the fun TomC, regardless of income......

I am no longer allowed to post on our sister forum ( I wear that as a badge of pride ), but I have to say this. Get over your class anger bud, you will be much better of a person.

    Stoogy? ...hmmm, lemme think...

Nope...no "stooginess" as I recall. :hail:

I've read a lot of posts here and replied over 6000 times now.

I work in a coin shop. I pale in comparison to many here in terms of knowledge and spending money for sure.

To others I know a lot more and spend a lot more.

BEFORE I worked in a shop I was good for at least $500 a month in coin purchases. Now that I work in a shop it's usually less than $100 a month and I get better prices.

Problem is I make less and see more. Wish I still had the $500 budget but I don't. So be it.

I have little respect for "modern" coins yet I still respect the collector of them. Whatever floats your boat and fits your budget.

I see it on a daily basis at work. Everyone has different tastes and budgets. I wait on them all and give them all the same attention. It's what I do for a living now.

CT is a lot like that. Tuesday I made a $1 sale to a regular. Today I sold $800 to another. Both good customers. Different budgets and interests. Common thread? COIN COLLECTORS.

So what was this thread about originally? :)

'No disrespect..but I'd say this place most definitely caters to the upper tier'.

Dang it, now I've got to go and find a forum that caters to the lower upper middle inbetween tier...

" Upper Tier" applys only if you think of yourself as lower tier...sounds to me like a self esteem problem, bigtime.

I have had a blast with ALL cointalkers, regardless of what " tier" they live in. Thats why this site rocks......

Ask anybody. I defy TomBmona to put me in a " tier "

The class anger, as you put it, Dude, is nothing more than a summary of what I have experienced in "the upper tier". Without going into a long ridiculous bunch on nonsense, there is a world of difference between your tier and lower tiers. That's how I see it. That's my opinion. Also without getting political...your tier and those above it are the primary reasons for a whole host of current, very short sighted, plain bad situations our society currently finds itself experiencing. The "upper tier", and its shortsighted greed, for instance, are responsible for the current gulf situation (soon to be the east coast's, then the world's). It certainly wasn't caused by people who DIDN'T have lots of cash already. Rather the opposite seeking more. IMO...that mentality will be the death of most of the planet probably sooner rather than later. More for the few...less for the many. I guess that's what you are referring to as anger. So be it.
Poor folks can't build oil rigs nor bypass backup and safety standards. Only the "upper tier" are capable of that feat. It's all about the fun huh? That what you guys call it? Whatever man. I call 'em as I see 'em.

    Oh yeah..wear your badge proudly.

Now "upper tier" collectors are responsible for the oil spill. Oh, and the death of the world also. To anyone who can make that connection, I bow:rolling::bigeyes::headbang:

"a long ridiculous bunch on nonsense" is an apt description of that logic.

BTW, a simple question. When was the last time you heard of "poor folks" hiring anyone?

We were both given the same opportunity....12 years of free school in America. Point blank. Dispute that.

I worked mine to the bone, what did you do with yours ? Why are you so angry at achievement ? that blows me away....I seriously dont get it.

Get over it. You still cannot nail me to a tier, you just rant political.

I have befriended every type of collector here on every budget. I have offered my help when I could and my ears and eyes when I thought I could learn. Ask around TomC, I have a pretty healthy reputation here for taking in the younger and less fortunate........

I want to be your friend, but you make it so difficult.

I am glad Jack has started posting here again - I always enjoy his posts. I have no idea what the 300,000 reference is, Tom, but I am glad Jack's back.

This is sad. The thread gets bumped because somebody was trying to set the record straight and now we have somebody feeling slighted about economic tiers. Seriously??? Nobobdy here cares, it is about collecting money, being bills, coins, tokens...whatever. There are some on here that may have not spent a cent, buying a coin, and others that may have spent more than 100k. Does it matter who is who?

Bringing politics and trying to blame economic class for the current situation is weak at best, and most come here to because politics are generally not discussed.

I think you should drop it, and if you can't see that many made comments that were subtly letting you know you were out of line, then you need some help.

By the way. I linked up to the thread that is in the original post, and if you want to read some arrogance and pompous individuals, it's a good start.

    end rant/

Well Doug...if you aren't upper tier, then you certainly are wasting a good impression of one. Outspoken, never wrong. You seem to have "corrected" everyone at one time or another in here. You fooled me Doug. I stand "corrected".
The value of my opinion? I guess it's whatever you say it is.
You gonna honestly tell me that the majority of folks here AREN'T shop owners, high stakes gamblers, or some other form 300,000 plus "collectors"? Who's honest and who isn't here? Geez.
I know my opinion isn't worth much Doug, but sometimes I state it anyway. Yeah the poor, destitute, "average" collectors are just falling all over the place in here huh?
The rich gather here more than anywhere else IMO. Sorry if some of you aren't rich, but there are more that are in here that aren't. Rich never think they're rich. I got news for you...if you can afford to throw around discussions about what MS rarity you bought last week. and the month before that....YOU'RE RICH. Stupid argument.
The OP was pertaining to the differences in this and other forums. I pointed out one. Sorry if it bruises the huge egos that have been so carefully sculptured, but if the shoe fits....and if it doesn't...why would you care? Why would you be so defensive? "You people" are really something else (or at least you certainly think you are).

Comprehension must be a strong suit of yours?

You really need to drop this. The only person that cares is you. I read all the time about people on here that don't actively spend money on coins, and you're looking for the ones that do.
