I went coin hunting today and spent a Buck, yes $1, and this is what I got for it. For starters I got two more coins for my scrap silver bag (Great Britain 1942 Florin & Mexico 50 Centavos 1943) ASW 0.3747 together! I got these two Canadian Large Cents 1917 & 1918, 50 & 1 Pfennig 1875 from the German Empire.
Next.. France 1927 Franc ( One of the lower mint years for this Franc ), and Great Britain 6 Pence 1946 in really nice shape. Also I found this Token from 1863 with " The Flag of our Union " on the obverse and " DIX " on the reverse.
and.... At work this week I got this quarter from one of the drawers and only had to replace a quarter to keep it!!! Please Post Your Cherry Picks of the Week as well!!!!
Good finds, especially like picking up silver for under melt. Maybe you should play the lottery while you are on a roll?
Hopefully when I get back on my feet again I'll go through the dealer's bins of world coins at my coin shop and see if I can't find something nice. Great picks for you, more good luck to ya'
That is the exact answer! jwsmothe, That is exactly what I do. I always loved going into antique shops and one time I saw a bin of world coins with 10 cents each or 11 for a Buck! I picked out 11 that I thought were interesting and found out that most were collectible and worth a couple dollars a piece. I fell right in love with this combination. I believe most U.S. Dealers only care about U.S. Coins and Bullion. So I wanted to be an underdog and study the heck out of world coins so that I could build up a cool collection that I love of neat finds for not much out of pocket cost (being that I have a very small budget! ), So I hunt around where ever I can for Non-U.S. coins at a great deal, which is never hard to find, because most haven't caught on to care much about them yet, but it is my belief that with the Internet and other resources available today that never were through out history that world coin collecting will blow up with in 20-40 years, so I am basically trying to get a head start on it now.
I was thinking about this too, but does anyone have a source that lists world silver coins? Thanks By the way awesome cherrypicks!
WOW!!!! Outstanding.........Today I bought my first world coin lot!!! Its alot of fun to step outside of your comfort zone at little cost
http://secure.numismaster.com/ta/Co....flat.UiControl_MyPriceGuides&@windowId=BLSRP You can use that to find out content, and such. Values come by paying for it, I don't know if they are accurate, I just use that site to look for my world coins that are silver. That is all I got. I know there is probably a world coin book out there somewhere if everything you are looking for though.
World Coin Gallery is a free site that you can look up most of the coins in the world, and even has sections to help you ID what you have. The best guide that you would have to buy is Standard Catalog of World Coins by Krause Publications
