I just started getting ready for the June 17-20 Baltimore Whitman Show. And it's still 3 weeks away! (I tend to start feeling the excitement early.) Just did my online registration. Now I have to tweak my wantlists. Barring difficulties I'll be there at my usual time, 10AM Friday. If you are thinking about going I recommend going either Friday or Saturday. Thursday many dealers are doing their own shopping and many tables are unmanned. By Sunday many dealers are gone. For the first time I'll start seriously looking at raw coins. A number of items have been on my wantlist too long. I can't find them slabbed mostly likely because they're just a bit too low-priced for the dealer to go to that expense. OR They are just not that much in demand so the dealers don't bring them to the show.
Something to consider. If you can't find someone to share a ride with, use Amtrak. I did that last year when I went to the Philly Whitman show. Yeh, it's an extra expense but it saves the stress of driving and parking, particularly if you don't know the city. (BTW I'm in Wash, DC, so I can't help you.)
I'm going to go to this show too. I need to vent my frustration with the US Mint, these idiots are wasting so much energy with special mintages that they seem to have forgotten why they exist. I've cancelled all of my subscriptions because the prices have gotten so out of hand it's impossible to get all of the coins minted in any given year unless you have limitless resources. Rant over
Amtrak is a good way to go, but parking at the Inner Harbor isn't a problem, either. There are two (2) large parking garages on Hanover St., just across from the Convention Center ($10 for an all day pass). Hotels at the Inner Harbor have free parking for their guests. You can walk from/to just about anywhere at the Inner Harbor. Most hotels have shuttle vans if you want to venture out further. Fells Point is a short water taxi ride away...which is always fun. Baltimore's Inner Harbor is a lotta fun even when a coin show's NOT going on. That Friday night Earth, Wind, & Fire will be at the Pier #6 Pavillion...or if you're looking for something a bit more "up-town" you can catch Andre Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra 1st Mariner Arena. Unfortunately, the O's will be in San Diego that weekend. If you haven't seen a game at Camden Yards, you should really add that to your "Bucket List"! All in all, it should be a fun weekend. :goofer:
Two weeks and counting. I just knocked two coins off my wantlist. Got them on Teletrade. I think the economy is REALLY getting to people. Both coins have been on my wantlist for a LONG time. But either they never were listed OR bidding went way too high. Got these for good prices. I also have two bids in at Long Beach. I will feel VERY lucky if I win even one of them. There is one IHC set aside for me which I'll pick up at the Baltimore show. Plus any time now I should FINALLY get my 1794 cent.
I'm hoping i can make it up there for the show, i do have a question though i checked the website and in the schedule it said there was going to be a liberty seated collector's club meeting, i was wondering if you had to be a member of this club to attend this meeting or if a non-member who loves the series could sit in.
