With the recent issues with a member pointing fingers at me...I wanted to post to this Thread.

I really enjoy the people here at CT and wondered why we would be criticized by another group. This thread is what lead me to join CU as JYD to see if it were true. I had signed up as RickieB long before JYD and never used or posted to it under that name till after the fact.
I know a few people over there as I have bought some of my notes from them, as with any forum, there are certain folks (that general 10%) in which controversial issues can arise, just as it did. I can say with all honesty that the majority of folks there are very nice, just a few in the click's are annoying.

I at times post over there as I feel there are some very valid Paper Money folks there with quite a bit of knowledge, however, it is infrequent that I do.

I have always tried to be on the up and up here on this forum and always will be. I am not good at alternate personalities and did post at CU who I was after the issues arose. I just wanted you all to know the truth.
The post date there at CU was Thursday June 18th, 2009- Arizona Jack started this on June 13, 2009...The JYD Avatar shows Joined June 2009..The RickieB Avatar shows I joined 2005... it's just as I say it was.
That is a whopping 4 years I went w/o posting much as RickieB.just want to set the record straight.

Very true about the US Coins forum, which I haven't visited in quite a few years except for occasional glimpses. Possibly true about some of the non-coin forums, according to some things I have heard. Absolutely untrue about the World & Ancient forum, which has a great bunch of very knowledgeable members who hold discussions, not rants.

I'm for whatever venue presents answers that are rooted in fact. The newer collector is looking for raw information rather than someone's particular opinion and judgments. Lotsa good info everywhere. Often you need to filter out the rhetoric from actual pertinent information that is indeed based on fact and not conjecture. I've found useful information at all these sites, and also a lot of nonsense as well. Face it. The upper income folks get along with the upper income folks and vice versa. No disrespect..but I'd say this place most definitely caters to the upper tier. Some of the others are more "common folk" geared. That's how I see it. Very smart and knowledgeable folks here for sure. Also a whole lot of inflated egos as well, but I think inflated egos are a product of wealth. Such is life.
Lastly, I do take issue with someone who claims they're "as regular a guy as you'll meet" with 300,000 other reasons to believe otherwise. IMO...the forums talked about in this thread, cater to specific groups of people and the people gather according to those groups common traits. There are exceptions in each forum but the rule is fairly easy to figure out as to who goes where IMO.

For the record, I would like to point out that I am not of an "Upper Income Class."

For the record, I am also not of "Upper Income Class." There are plenty of people here who aren't. Shoot, I'm paying for college now and dont even spend *maybe* a couple hundred bucks a year on coins. All I can afford to spend is my change.

I think this is a pretty classy forum. Part of being classy is (to paraphrase Kipling) to be able to walk with kings and still retain the common touch. I think there's some really classy folks here......:)

Interesting concept Tom. Just for giggles, where do I fit in - in your opinion of course.

OK, so who does this forum cater to ? Oh wait, you already answered that didn't you - CT caters to the "upper tier" according to you.

I find that just a bit odd since this forum in particular is known, and known by most, to cater to the beginner, the novice, even the young kids. And I haven't ever known but a handful of them that were in the "upper tier" in my entire life.

Hmmmmm - don't suppose that speaks to the value of your opinion now do ya ?

Me? I'm on Social Security Retirement because my boss closed his business, and at 62 in the current economy, I couldn't find another job. I guess you could say I'm on the cusp of the upper tier...........barely above poverty.

Just my two pennies worth here.

I've looked at many other forums, and by far there is no comparison to CT.

Several others, which I will not name, I found to be loaded with arrogant show offs, exacting minimal knowledge of numismatics at all. They turned out to be the quick resale types that are only looking for a fast buck on their coin purchases. They sing the praises of MS/PR-70 everything, being worth every penny being asked for them. 1 forum actually supports basement graders like NSGC, SGS, etc.

You'll notice I registered here and slowly became apart of this community and the simple reason is CT is in a class of it's own.

I'm certainly not "upper tier"! I started collecting again about 2 years ago by coin roll hunting and it grew from there. Most of my collection came from searching bills or coin rolls and pocket change. It's just recently that I began to make purchases (that is, paying more than face value) with the exception of buying a couple of bulk world coin packages earlier on.

I find this particular forum comfortable because there is a good cross-section of collectors that cover so many different areas and they are willing to share their knowledge. I find the Q's and A's educational and interesting. Everyone is able to participate regardless of their age, their level of education, their individual interests or financial status.

I have several mentors on this site because of the breadth of my collecting interests and it would be a shame to see any of them leave due to unwarranted personal attacks.

I'd say that CT is a melting pot of all income class's. There are plenty of people on here that have very little if no income/net worth and just as many that have large ones too.
That's why I like it here. A good mix of people.
That makes many questions asked from beginner to advanced and you get to see them all!!

Really folks. Who is happy and who has too much to keep track of can interfere with enjoying what ya got.

So if what ya got is attitude, so be it.

CT is a wonderful mix people that CAN be happy......or Not.

    Just to let you know.

    I'm wanting your calligraphy framed.
You don't need to pay any attention to lessor opinions since you obviously have talent and can crank it out at your own whim.

Others can just complain and whine.

I'm not anywhere close to "upper class" - LOL...I would say my income is lower than pretty much everyone else here on CT. Last year it was up since I sold my partnership with the company I co-owned, and this year will be better than the last few years, but still, it is nothing to brag about.

"upper tier" all depends on your perspective. Financially, I am no where near the "upper tier" from any perspective except maybe Haitian. Were it not for health insurance, I would be considered impoverished. In all other aspects, I do not think I would consider myself in the lower tier of anything - most especially from Tom's perspective.

For the record, in spite of what Tom says there is no income requirement on Coin Talk. Pretty much the only requirement, other than good behavior, is a working email address (which you can get free from places like Google, Yahoo, and Hotmail), connection to the Internets (which you may have access to for free from a local library or university), and the ability to convert your thoughts into text to be posted on the forum (usually a keyboard will do that for you). That's it. Of course the upper income folks are just as welcome as are the middle class and the poor folks, but we generally don't have any means of telling them apart. ;)

FWIW I am not "upper tier" at all in terms of income. I am not even close to being "upper tier" in terms of income. I do not see myself making a lot of money in my lifetime but I see myself enjoying my hobbies and being happy with my life and that is what matters. If a person cannot enjoy their hobbies and being happy in life because they are working 60-80 hours a week in a "high income" job, then what is the point of having a "high income"?

I believe there are thousands of times more "Junk" collectors than those with registered collections. The hobby for a great number pf people is in the hunt, whether in circulation, flea markets or coin shows. Those of us without means buy rolls from the bank, check out yard & estate sales and peer through the Bargin Bins at collector's stalls. Do Not Kid yourself, It's Us Minions that are the backbone of the hobby. Our ignorance and desire for education allows the publishers of Numismatic books to survive. We are the reason there is Redbook, PCGS Grading Guides and The Cherrypickers' Guides, to name a few. Humble our collections may be, our numbers are Many.

    IMHO
