Can anyone see that this coin is double struck? I can't make out anything on it. http://cgi.ebay.com/1863-Rare-doubl...em&pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item439fa935cf
It looks more like something that was found after having been buried for 100 years. Just another idiot seller on FleaBay. Chris
Maybe struck twice with a hammer.... It still amazes me how many delusional people list coins on EBay.
The seller must have really good eyes. I dont know how he can tell that is a double struck through all that corrosion. Another person who can receive the Darwin Award!
I can't see anything, but: "An Indian head penny that has been struck twice on one side in reverse and adverse" Struck in reverse, means probably a hammer job, but............ what the heck does "adverse" mean? Is he adverse to any idea of the truth? Or just plain dumb?
.........and if it weren't for the ridiculous price, you'd also see how many imbeciles fall for that garbage. Chris
"Dated both sides of the penny." I wonder if the date is struck "in reverse" or "adverse". "This coin is larger than an average cent almost to the point of the 1800's pennies . . . " Larger as in diameter (which points to hammer job) or larger as in thickness (which is normal for Copper-Nickel IHCs)? I like how he covers all bases by alternately using the terms "cent" and "pennies".
What possible reason could someone have for listing that price? I mean, I can see a guy trying to scam with the wording, but why waste the money on an auction that cannot close? Where is the benefit? I mean, he simply must know that no one will take the ad seriously, so why even bother?
The adverse does appear to be struck Twice or more thus making this truely a rare coin. You should all be able to see it. 1sec nurse is here with my meds.lol:goofer:
We see this stuff all the time but have we seen any that actually sell for these crazy prices? I'm not talking about a PMD'ed piece of junk selling for 5 bucks I'm talking that same piece of junk selling for 1k or more?
I dont think they are dillusional, they are just young children who found out about coin errors and go crazy over any thing that looks different in a coin who then think they have the rarest coin in the world. Just a childs fantasy...
There is no way thats a indian cent. It most likely a civil war token has that fake indian head on it.
Q: Think you could maybe come down to $500,000.00? 1,000,000.00 is a little rich for my blood. Jun-06-10 A: Actually if this does not sell on this Auction I will be sending it out to have it Slabbed---Authenicated If it returns as I expect I am sure it will bring more than my present Starting bid Thank you for Asking that takes the cake.
