Last week, when folks weren't upset over the Mint breaking faith with their pricing model, the Letitia Tyler Proof sold a grand total of one (1) coin.

Now the Mint announces they're not going to lower prices this week and we're to believe the Mint will now sell a thousand (1000) Letitia Tyler Proof coins?!

I find that rather hard to imagine. I suppose it could happen, but I wouldn't bet too much on it.

I've heard it said many times on CT..."Elaine is an Institution". How many you planning to buy? :D

I think one of the reasons sales are so low is that most bullion investors don't want to pay the 25% premium the Mint charges for First Spouse coins...so they're really not bullion.

Are they commemoratives? I guess, but what are they commemorating? Commemoratives usually fall on some sort of important anniversary. The release of First Spouse coins are based on some arbitrary, meaningless Mint schedule.

I think these coins fall into a numismatic abyss; collectors don't quite know what they are...they just know they can't afford to keep up.

If I were an institutional buyer charged with developing a PM position, First Spouse coins would be the LAST think I would buy. I would be looking to get the most number of grams/dollar as possible.

the purity of the gold is nice and the half oz size is nice. I believe that the early ones are not that much over melt. In some ways these coins are not bad as bullion coins.

Well, if you don't care about who you get and the packaging isn't important, $30 over spot is not too hard to find.

They are nice coins, and may be a sleeper in the future just like the modern commems, but then again, who owns the right type of crystal ball?

Does anyone know what the new mintage plan is for the FS for each coin in 2010. I think I read it is now reduced to 15,000 or so? - thanks,

that's not the final mintage. the mint usually did not report the last few days sales figure. beside that. i see other first spouses issue this year like jane and margaret can beat julie tyler.

so far it is anna harrison the winner. because the julie and letitia tylers were mostly bought by few investors with many pieces. then they gonna dump the market.
