Do you ever sell them? I enjoy going through boxes of cents, but I only pull out BU coins and wheats, so it is a fast search; it seems like it would take a long time to look at the date on each coin and sort it into copper and zinc. With all the extra work you put in, do you every try to realize a profit? If you were to sell them, how would you go about it? Ebay? Amazon? Craig's List? Recycler? I know some people on here have thousands of coppers, so just wondering!
Perhaps they will do like me and pull them out when the budget for new coins is limited. I can then look for the things I overlooked when I put them away.
I've had good luck selling them on Kijiji. I got rid of a nice bulk lot that I had. For unsorted rolls, I sell or trade them off. Some of the dealers buy them and put them in their 5 coins for $1 or 10 coins for $1 bins. I still have about 800 rolls to unload and I'll take care of that over the next few months.
No I do not sell them. I do not find very many, but from those that I do, I keep. A while back, I started to take a liking to modern zinc-copper coated cents. So I keep those when picking up by the roll (just easier to handle and store longterm).
Ive sold virtually all my copper lincolns. I had alot and didnt care to have them anymore. To this day I still have no regrets.
I save all my coins and sort all the cents by copper and zinc. I then roll them separately. It is only a matter of time before you won't see any pre-82 cents in circulation. I'm also getting pretty good at identifying the 82 cents that are copper versus zinc.
What medium did u use to sell them? What kind of premium per cent did you realize? Was it worth it to seperate them?
My prefered method, other than the standard use of a scale, or *cringe* dropping them, is the to flip them like u would in heads or tails. Coppers give a metalic ring as they spin. Zincolns just made a thud sound.
I have hoarded probably 170 BU rolls, 25 rolls of circulated wheat rolls. And probably 300 certified coins. I am still on the cusp of burying it all. Look up my post on that, burying it all.
I look at every coin, I am checking for errors, etc. 1982 and before go into a large paper cup, Wheat Cents into another and the zinc a bucket for re-rolling. Then I sort by decade, then year and Mint. I store those in labeled rolls.
Thank you, but it is the only way I have any idea what I have. I am still sorting and looking for varieties and errors.
