i have this coin, i know nothing about it at all, can someone help me. it is the same thing on both sides. i dont have a pic of it but it looks like old chinese. it also looks copper but with a fade, it is very heavy and has what looks like pigs on the sides of the lettering wich is in the middle in a square. the lettering is different on the other side but the desighn is the same. then on the side written in english it says "WASC"
I don't know much about foreign stuff, but as my first impression it seems to look more like a medal than a coin, someone for more knowledgeable than myself in this subject should chime in soon.
I would try to get a translation done on the symbols. That should give you a starting point. There are some members here that may be able to help you out. Give them some time to respond. Some members are only on here every week or so. Good luck. Curious to find out what it is as well.
...you can try this site: http://forums.collectors.com/categories.cfm?catid=6&zb=9552408 you'll need to join but it's free and painless (lots of forums too)
I'm fairly sure there are as many, if not more, Chinese specialists here. That piece is certainly a charm, not a circulating coin. It is most likely a fairly recent creation, too. As I can't actually read Chinese, I have no clue what sort of good luck it should give you!
Post this in the World and Ancient Coins forum, and I'll bet you'll get an answer. The experts on this hang out there.
True, I don't care for PCGS. But I peruse their boards periodically. Their "Dark Side" board isn't the best, but its not the worst. Take it for what it is, though - a forum hosted by a slabbing company. By nature, its going to focus on the stuff that goes in slabs - mostly US coins, a decent bit of world coins, a smidgen of ancients. I'm also a member at http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php, hosted by an ancient coins dealer, but I wouldn't post a wheat cent there. Better than either here OR the PCGS boards for this charm: http://www.zeno.ru/ I still don't think that's necessary, we have our own resident experts in these. :smile
The Chinese inscription at the center of the piece (bottom image) reads tong meng sheng li which means "allied victory" or "alliance victory". This is not the kind of inscription you would normally see on a traditional Chinese charm. While the design/symbols on the piece have a certain oriental quality, they are not "Chinese" in the classic sense and I would be surprised if they had any real meaning. From what I can see of the metal and patina, the piece does not impress me as being "old" and I think it is of modern production. I would not consider it a charm because of the nature of the inscription. "Fantasy" pieces usually have some resemblance to real charms but this piece does not seem to be based on any Chinese charm that I am familiar with so I do not consider it a fantasy piece, either. Maybe it is associated with a movie, book, video game, board game, theme park, or ??? Hopefully, the inscription "allied victory" will provide a clue to another forum member who can better identify this piece. Gary
at first i thought that both sides had the same desighn but i gave it a closer look there actually different. down to the smallest line. and i dont understand why an amusment park, or movie set would make the coin out of copper and put so much detail into it, and i found it in my grandfathers house where he has lived for 60 years. usually if something went into his house it stayed there lol, thats why i figured it was so old but thank you for the reply, i really appreciate it
It is indeed a pleasure to see someone holding a coin (medal, token) in the proper manner. Welcome to the forum old (young) fellow.....:smile
Could it possibly commemerate the end of WWII, with the Allies winning? (China was one of the allies)
