The 1857 flying eagle is slabbed by PCGS (EF-45) Struck through metal. I'm pretty sure this is silver - any other reasonable possibilities on this one? The 1908-S Indian cent is slabbed by NGC (AU-58) Struck through metal. Look at the 2nd T in STATES thorugh the first two feathers and the LIB in LIBERTY. I don't believe it has the color of gold, but it also doesn't look like it is copper. Any ideas on this one?
Both are beauties. Would there be any reason why the mint would have silver or gold foil on the premices? I don't know if they had it back then or not...
Good question but I don't have a clue Abe. It sure looks like a little scrap of silver on the 1857 though.
This may help you fine out what the coins are made of.Ngc has this now. http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewarticle.aspx?NewsletterNewsArticleID=768
That's really good information to know and it's nice to know they can do that, but it sure isn't worth $75 each to me.
$75.00 is a lot but a IHC mule would be worth it. the coin price got from $$$.00 to $$$$$.00,make sure you use it wisely
Nice strike through, and i'm pretty sure the mint wokers chew gum.it does have the appearance of the silver wrapper BOB
