Too many collectors. Don't wait for the half dollar bag on the machine to be full. I buy the bag when it is over a hundred bucks. If you wait, someone else will buy it. And I never wait for the tellers to call me. They forget, or they are off duty when the bag is full, or the boss replaces the bag, or...

So my question is if you go to a bank that has a coin machine you can actually purchase the bag of coins from them?

Lady luck paid me a visit again this month :mouth:!!!:smile!!!:mouth:
I picked up 10 rolls of halves from a BOA wasn't expecting anything because the last one they handed me the edges were ripped and I could see they were all clad. To my surprise the first roll had 1 %40 didn't think too much of it but the second roll I found 16 silver halves and it was similar spread throughout the rest of the rolls :smile
    I found 3 1964 halves and 58 %40'ERS I was thrilled :D

my girls mom got a roll of change at her work(gas station). that has either a '26, '27, or '28 buffalo(girlfriend couldn't remember). her mom said it was in great condition, we will see what her definition of that is..

since it was at the end of the roll she didn't open it, and is giving it to me tonight. that would be nice if i opened it and it was all buffalos or all nickels buffalo and older. i would even be happy if there was some war nickels in there!

it would also be nice if that 26/27/28 buffalo was a D or an S, that is vf or better. preferably 26-s! but i can keep dreaming .

i will open and take pictures after midnight, when she gets home. she did get me a roll with my nicely toned ihc. and 2 rolls of silver quarters, so maybe there is hope.

Went threw $750 in halves today didn't find much but found a 1966, 2 1968 D, and a 1969 D for silver. Found a 1973 S and a 2003 P(which was needed for my book). also went threw a box of nickels and still have a box of pennies to go threw but in the nickels I found a 1943 D, 3 Canadian nickels dates were 1990, 1979, and a 1941(does this contain silver??). Also I found 28 pre 1960 coins which are:

    1939(2)
    1940(3)
    1941(3)
    1952(2)
    1953
    1954 D
    1955 D
    1956 D
    1957 D
    1958 D(4)
    1959
    1959 D(3)
    1960 D(5)

Also I found a $1 star note at my aunt's donut shop!!!

It looks like 1921 was the last year that Canadian Nickels contained silver. From 1922-1942 they were made of nickel & after that they switched to brass and then steel and so on ..

    Buying bags off bank machines

Yes, I can buy bags directly off the machines at my branch. Pennies, up to dollars. I've tried pennies, waste of time. Almost always have luck on half dollars. Haven't tried others yet.

It depends what you are looking for with pennies. If you're just looking for scarce dates those rarely turn up. But if you're looking for error coins, there are many to be found in late date cents.

I've only been searching pennies for a couple of weeks and so far have found:

3 broadstrikes (worth about $10 each)
1 1994 double column reverse (worth about $40)
1 1995 doubled die "LIBERTY" (worth about $90)
1 no "DBS" (worth about $1)
    1 1980 S over D double mintmark (worth about $50)

I have yet to find the elusive "Close AM" 1992's or the "Wide AM" 1998, 1999, 2000's.

I also bought two boxes of cents with the intention of searching them and both boxes turned out to be the new cents---all mint wrapped new uncirculated 2010 shield cents---which are selling for over $50 a box on ebay (for a $25 box).

Don't give up on the pennies unless you just want the scarce dates!

Hey guys I got a question.

I'm pretty much a "noob" when it comes to collecting, but I have learned alot about coins over the last few weeks. But, my question is, what do you guys ask for specificly when at bank for these boxes and rolls? Why I ask is I try not to make a fool of myself in front of other people, but if I can get an answer from anyone who gets rolls or boxes from banks would be great.

I just ask for a box of what ever it is i am seeking. They do not know why nor do they really care. Some get annoyed as i go in often but it is there job. I know that is harsh but the truth as well.

For rolls like halves you simply ask if they have any rlls of half dollars. Most tellers are not going to think anything of it, just another transaction in there eyes.

    Regards,
    Stan

    1 CWR haves - nothing
    1 box haves - nothing
1 box of dimes - nothing

Not a good searching day, but have another box of halves I'll open tomorrow.

However, the teller did have for me a 1976 bicentennial proof Kennedy half and a proof 1976 Ike Dollar. Both have small scratches, but both are really nice coins. I love the Ikes in proof

i opened my roll to find a 1927-D buffalo, i would say VF. the second coin was a 1920 buffalo, it has a mirror finish to it. not quite sure what is going on there? i will research it later. the rest were all Jeffersons from the 70-2006:(.

i can't complain the '27-D buffalo is pretty nice..

i forgot to charge my camera, i will get pictures later today when i get back.

    Last halves box search

:(I have just finished searching my second and last box of halves which I got from my credit union. There was no silver and no proof coins. Only good surprises were a commemorative 1986 Immigrant half and a few post-2000 halves. To me it is not worth the time to search boxes; I would rather analyze best investment coins to purchase.

$10 in CWR nickels got me 1 45 D war
$10 in machine wrapped nickels got me a 44 D war
That was very cool because i have been searching boxes for a war nickel and haven't found one in a while.

$20 in CWR halves got me 2 40%, funny since the teller said the person who turned them in said he searched them very well.

$555 plus in dimes left me with 5 silvers, overall a good day

Yes. It helps if you have a relationship with the staff. Not all banks, of course, but it's common in the Pacific NW. Many areas. I have tried pennies and halves, nothing else. Yet.

    $500 in halves got me as follows;
    3 40%'s (ehh...)
    1 78-D no FG.
    1 71-D DDO (Maybe?)
    1 2003-P
    1 2003-D
    1 2008-S Proof (WTF?)

Oh, and a 197? worn as all hell pocket piece. Pics later on.
