maybe its the way i am looking at the picture. but it looks like there is scratches and bit of ware to be MS. thanks for the help, that is why i asked. i am starting to expand my collection to silver dollars and most other ones at this grade looked better.
panda if I undersatand your comments correctly the real problem you have with understanding the grade assigned to that coin is because of the eye appeal, because you think the coin is unattractive, and, because you think that the hairlines you see would prevent the coin from being graded as MS. What I would suggest to you, as a start, would be for you to spend some time looking at pictures of graded coins on the Heritage web site. Then you'll start to get a better feel for what a MS63 coin looks like. And look for some with a similar toning pattern and coloration. It will help a lot. Eventually you're going to need to look at graded coins in hand, whether at a coin shop or coin show. And you will learn even more. But pictures are a good start.
thanks. its not the toning, it just looked worn, compared to other ms63 morgans on there site. i am going to that shop monday, and want to look at that coin. i am trying to learn more about grading before i make bigger purchases. and this coin sorta confused me. i zoomed the picture and, i think i see were i confused myself. thanks for the help though.
Hard to tell from those pictures but it has alot of toning that will cover alot of the detail in a pic so I would definatly want to see it in hand.
it is a NGC coin Date/Info: 1881 Denomination: S$1 Grade: MS 63 Additional Information NumisMedia Value: $56.40 my opinion is as follows its severely toned.. it may have been a original grading im in agreeable its not the prettiest coin.. in comparision to the 2 ms 63-64s i have home i d say it toned in the holder causing it to look this toned..in a row id pass it up..
This coin looks like an end of roll toning. One of my dealers has one he showed me last week. MS-63, NGC slab, he's asking $45.
Whether someone likes the toning or not is not the issue, but it does make it harder to judge the condition when looking at photos. It would be much easier to assess the condition of this coin by examining it in-hand. I don't think that it toned in the slab. I believe that is an NGC 4 slab. Late 80's or early 90's??? Chris
And those look like scanned images as opposed to photos. Trust me, this coin looks 20x's better in hand, than from these scanned images.
I bet if I photographed that coin, not only would you think it is mint state, you would probably consider buying it.
:rolling: What does it mean* making LOVE LOVE to a DEAD FISH? AM I looking for Aquarium withoutwater and Fish..:bigeyes:.
Dead Fish is a colloquial phrase referring to sexual performance. Forum rules prohibit me from explaining further.
It is, here is an example of an EOR 1881 Morgan Dollar. The coin in the OP appears more of an album toned coin to me.
I agree, or an envelope. But don't forget, they had shotgun rolls too. But those tend to leave a light colored edge/rim.
