2010 Annual Mint Sets

Has anyone read or heard anything as to whether the mint is resuming regular business strikes for the annual mint sets this year being that they are scheduled to be released in mid July?

10:1 says it's satin. No annoucement of a change means same-o.

 

HSN has said that the satin issues were ending in 2009. Unless they have some insider knowledge, I would take that as meaning that satin will continue in 2010. TC

The 2010 President unc set is satin. When I ordered them from the mint they said the regular unc set would be satin too.

 

I have a feeling satin is here to stay - but...... for how long????

Yep, called them. The Mint's website does not say satin as it did in the past. But, my president unc sets are in hand and are definitely satin.

 

Mints website for subscription for the 2010 mint set still says

Unlike circulating coins, uncirculated coins are struck on specially burnished blanks and feature a satin-like finish.

 

Yeah, the mint site used to read "satin" for the previous issues of presidental uncirc' sets. Not this year though.

 

HSN stated unequivocally that 2009 would be the end of the satin finish. What do we do now, wait for the lawsuits?

 

Ugh, I am hoping they go back to regular business strikes because it's so much easier to continue filling my albums like I used to do. These past years of those satins have been a nuisance in my opinion.

Maybe the mint will offer regular uncirculated sets like the three new sets they have for the quarters. One is an uncirculated set (I guess meaning satin) and one other is a circulating coin set (I guess meaning business strike).

 

Yes, but the problem with that ad (if it's still the same) is it talks about the 2009 set too. The ads that offer only 2010 sets don't mention satin or at least they didn't.

 

Although many collectors like the satins, many share the above sentiment too, thus the potential for low mintages, like we've seen. As in the past, low mintages tend to spur demand, thus higher prices.

 

My guess is that the mint will continue to do business the exact same way as it has. The Mint Sets will contain satin finish coins, and the circulation coins will continue to be circulation strikes.

My only hope was that the Mint would make ALL 2010 coins with a satin finish thereby eliminating the "special" finish of the Mint Set coins.

 

Not the page I'm looking at. It doesn't say anything about the 2009 set. with the exception that it says

If you wish to purchase the prior year set, visit the Annual Coin Sets area and order it separately while supplies last.

It sends you off to a different page to talk about the 2009's.

That's an interesting idea...I could go for that, but I assume it costs more to create the satin finish on burnished blanks.

Is it really so difficult for the Mint to clearly state what they're doing?

They need a Numismatic Advisory Board to help them address their communication problems...or ask Moy to join CT.

 

Personally I wished the mint would issue regular business strikes in these sets.
