I know I'm probably stirring the pot a little, but I have this beautiful medal from the 1915 California Panama-Pacific International Exposition and it actually says "PENNY" on it, so I just had to post it in honor of MBT! Any way, let's see your favorite token or medal!
Wow! These are all beauties. I've seen a few of them before but most are new to me. That's a great theme for a medal collection.
I love those medals and have seen them a few times in books only. Never in person. They are real beauties! I do have the Early Commem Pan Pac in MS and I'll try to get a picture of it if the bank is not closed when I get there. Chris the more of your collection I see the more I like!!
The 1864 copper medal by Jean Francois Antoine Bovy commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the return of the Geneva Canton to the Swiss Confederation after 300 years of French rule, 1514-1814. This 1900 Universal Exposition medal by Jules Clement Chaplain in 64mm bronze was also struck in silver, and I have been searching for a nice specimen of it for a long time. I love the way he used the oak branch to form a wreath on Marianne's head. The 1900 Olympics were held in Paris at the same time as the Universal Exposition, and here is a silvered bronze plaquette designed by Louis Oscar Roty for the event. Roty also designed medals for the Olympic participants, but they can rarely be found for less than $750. Chris
