    Thursday Night search results

I went thru a $100 box of Nickels and a $25 box of Pennies. Here are my results.

    Nickels
    4 Silver Nickels
    30 pre-1960 Nickels ('41-'59)
    1 Canadian ('89)

    Pennies
    27 Wheaties
    -oldest was a 1935
    -best condition was a 1954 s

    12 Canadian Pennies

I kept the Canadian coins to give to my mom. She likes any foreign coins. I was happy and a bit surprised to pull 4 silver Nickels in my first ever Nickel box. Actually the very first coin I pulled was a Silver War Nickel, :).

I had a lot of fun searching those 2 boxes. I'll probably get a box of each again to search over for the weekend. I really want to find my first Buffalo Nickel, and some earlier cents, something pre-1930s, and ofcourse more silver! :)

I don't plan on doing a collection with them, but I will hold onto any of them that are fairly old. Other than that Mom gets them. She likes them, she is kind of my collecting buddy out of my family, no one else seems to care about this stuff. She's an even bigger novice than me, but we have fun.

i got a '57 quarter in change out of a pepsi machine today! so i put in a dollar in change and hit the return button and it spit out a '58,'59,'60,'61. its weird that they came out in order like that?

i tried 5 dollars more and got all state quarters. they probably either thought i was crazy or trying to rip the machine off at the store it was at.

not really roll searching, but didn't think this needed its own thread. unless we start a "soda machine searches" thread!

Did a box of nickels last night. 5 war nix, 18 pre-1960 and one MS - 82

Anyone find any proofs while searching nickels? And what's up with all the 1964's? They must have made billions of them to make up for everyone pulling silver dimes, quarters and half dollars after they introduced the clad garbage we have now....

My, times have changed. When I was a kid, the last thing I would want to do when trying to pick up a girl was tell her I collected coins!!!

The last thing that I do is tell her that I am married!

Strange, that you thought of coins!

I think telling a chick you collect coins would probably be a bigger turn off than telling her you were married :goofer:

There were coin sortages in the mid 1960s, and with the silver change, congress allowed te 1964 date to stay on coins well into 1965 (or maybe even into '66). What resulted was the highest ever mintage (still) of the 5 cent coin:

    1964 P - 1,028,622,762
    1964 D - 1,787,297,160

Yep, that is 2.9 BILLION plus.

    finished a box

I finished the other half of my recent box and found another 1960 D Small Date and seven more wheats and a 1951 and '57 Canadian.

Found this one some time back in boxes that I am posting.

$726 in loose halves: 2-40%, 3-90% (1925 Stone Mountain, the 4th one I have found; 1948 Franklin, and 1964 Kennedy) Also found another 1987p, 2nd one in as many days. I have yet to find a walker which really irks me. But 4 Stone Mtns makes up for it.
