What makes you think they forgot? They've been raising prices on new coin releases so it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to make a few bucks off these slow moving FS coins by 'forgetting' to reprice them on a day of other new coin releases when someone may try to buy a lot of products to reduce shipping fees.

Maybe you should call in your FS order and complain... see if you can get the lower price despite those currently published online: proof $779 and unc $766

All the more reason not to buy from the Mint at their inflated premiums.

I read the article and the article that is cited. I didn't read anywhere there that the Mint "refused" to lower the prices... they just didn't do so. There are dozens of possible explanations of why the price didn't drop this week as expected, only one of them is a blatant refusal to lower the prices. The fact that the Mint didn't respond to inquiries regarding the pricing doesn't necessarily mean they refused to lower prices.

I don't care about the price at this point...I HAVE to own the Jane Pierce when it first comes out. :goofer:

    Amazing news, though.

    :p

Well it just seems that given the quality of government employees in general it is much more likely that someone at the Mint was on vacation (Holiday weekend) or just forgot to adjust prices and less likely that there is a conspiracy at the Mint to circumvent their established policies to in order to make an extra few bucks on coins pretty much nobody is buying anyways. ;)

No way! On vacation and forgot? The people in charge of product pricing are much more high level and in control than general employees ordered to update the product catalog. If someone forgot, someone else would have noticed and the price been corrected. It was intentional but there's no reason to speculate on conspiratorial reasons either. I don't buy the simplistic idea of forgetfulness at all. Those employees might as well forget to come back to their job after the holiday since it might warrant demotion or termination for such carelessness, especially on such a slow moving product that is not selling out and needs all the help it can get to boost sales of previously marketed and minted product waiting to be sold.

If this was a topical PR stunt to generate buzz over the long weekend on blogs and forums to in turn drive up awareness of the FS coins, it's a rather risky maneuver that could well offend or back-fire on the Mint and their reputation for acting according to stated pricing policy.

That's why I was questioning the Mint a couple of months ago about the First Spouse program. The Mint pretty much does as they please behind closed doors (with complete distain for their customer base..."filthy collectors!").

I was reading the legislation that dictates how the FS program is to be run. I thought I saw a loophole where they could produce many more FS coins than they sell directly from the Mint (during the one year period) and could continue to sell them via "alternate channels" until the end of the of the Presidential coin program (around 2015). They never answered any of my inquiries.

That's why I started the thread called "Stunningly Obtuse" about the Mint's sales practices. They say how they're "not" going to sell a product and leave it to us to guess how they "will continue" to sell the product.

I was encouraged when they came out with their PM pricing chart, but now they're not following that, either. Who knows what these guys are gonna do next? There oughta be a law!!

I have. Not for FS coins, but for AGE and ASE coins not issued in 2009. I don't collect FS coins, but I follow Yakpoo's threads here and keep up on the articles in the blog media about them and care about the situation as much as I was compelled to write to my elected officials about the other series of coins. I too would implore the importance of contact with your elected officials to deliver your message to Washington and the appropriate offices there where our voice needs to be heard.

My Congressman is Steny Hoyer (D - Maryland). A lotta good it will do to write him...he IS the problem. Every two (2) years I vote him down, but he keeps getting elected. :crying::rolling:

I don't play the mintage game and I dislike the Mint's refusal to follow their own pricing policy.
