Collector's submit "ultra-rarities" to the grading services all the time and without fear of the exact coin being returned.

The checks and balances system is set in place to account for everything that comes and goes through their doors. There maybe an occasional problem, but it will be resolved with customer satisfaction.

If you do not trust them, then don't use them...simple.

Even though I have not added anything of substance to this thread, I am still following it with intrepidation.

    Happy Collecting

Would a major TPG risk their thirty to fifty million dollar a year business by stealing a submitters two hundred dollar coin? A thousand dollar coin? A ten thousand dollar coin? A MILLION dollar coin? Steal a million dollar coin....lose 50 million dollars a year in submissions. Doesn't sound like a good deal to me and I seriously doubt if it sounds like a good deal to them either.

Meh, well at least the first few pages were interesting. I am interested in what will happen to the Op's situation, I hope everything is corrected.

On a side note: Seeing that they didn't take out the coin, can they really do anything about it? and is it at all possible that the package could've been tampered with, then restored?

    just wondering.

He's just saying that NCG did not upgrade his coin to a Full Steps that was toned I think.

Well in a way that is true, the coin I sent in was FS but it wasn't designated as such on the holder, and it was an OLD holder, FS is near impossible to find so they gave me a similar coin, since mine got spotted in the holder. During the review for the spots they recognized it as FS and replaced with the coin you see in the images. So no it really wasn't an upgrade because the original coin and the replacement coins were both 67FS.

Yes I am sure I understand, Im suppose to believe NGC has a vault of coins waiting for the right opportunity to swap coins with the customers with the intent to clean the real coin and profit from it:kewl:

Well, it happened, I don't think NGC places a premium on toned and I am sure that was the only one they could find, there is only a population of about 8 with none higher. Where would they find a blast white one that wasn't already in someone's registry set? I was surprised they found this one. I realize you don't know me and I don't know you, but I don't make things up.

Heres the only scenario I can imagine......
Like you said before this coin in this grade is very RARE.
So it may be possible that you and another person sent the same coin at the same time and because its RARE they were not as observant of who the owner of it was and when they saw the coin on your paper work they automatically assumed it was yours. I am not trying to call you a liar at all. But i thinkits not fair to assume that they did this on purpose with fraud as there intent. If you had called them I am sure they would have fixed it. In this case I cant say I blame you for not calling.

Absolutely! You should get a free correction and a free slabbing for their screw up, or is that expecting too much from a reputable TPGer?

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. When did I say they did anything with the intent to fraud? I don't believe for a second they switched my coin one someone else sent in. That doesn't make sense. It took a long time so I think they went out and bought the new coin from their dealer network. And I did call on numerous occasions.

If they switched your coin that is fraud. And if they went out looking for a coin to buy and switch then thats for sure fraud.

And for the record Im not trying to be rude or mean. If this is true than something needs to be said about it. I mean what if that nickel was the only thing your dad left for you when he died .:confused::confused:

Absolutely! I have a coin that I recently bought in a PCGS holder and it says "Genuine not Gradable". I wonder if that one could have been misattributed due to a rinsing from the mint? Could be I'll never know but surely one of the TPG's have realized that they could be calling it wrong and affecting the future sale of that coin. I wonder if anything is being done about this. Is it better to tell the TPG ahead of time that the coin could not have been cleaned? Is one of the TPG's safer than the others in the situation of having brand new gem bu's graded?
