First CAC, then PCGS, and now NGC. I guess the notion of "good for the grade" has caught on quite well.
And an observation -- NGC is accepting comments before launching the service. I think that's a very wise move, and part of the "customer friendly" nature of the company.
I won't be completely satisfied until theres a +++, checkmark, thumbs up, star, smiley face on my holders, just to check, recheck, and double recheck again the grade. You can never pay too much for the same reassurement. Guy~ (all in sarcastic tone, in case you don't comprehend sarcasm)
[NOTE: This will be additional sarcasm.] In an effort to get approval from multiple TPGs (and CAC) simultaneously, they have agreed NOT to do crossovers. Instead slabs will be kept intact and THEN slabbed. For example, by this process you could end up with an NGC+ slab inside a PCGS Premium slab inside a CAC slab (for durability purposes CAC has decided to use slabs rather than the "bean"). NCS, ANACS and ICG are in the process of implementing their addition to this process. The US Supreme Court ruled that this must be allowed to happen so that none of the TPGs can corner the "approval" market. Of course the final will be a MS-70 or PF-70 slab by SGS. Coins slabbed in this manner will be stored the same way a Yap stone money. A positive byproduct of this system will be security; no one will be able to steal them. Too heavy.
I am not to thrill with this. IMHO the coin should grade solid as listed on the slab or it should be drop down to the next grade, period.
All right well do you all want to see my 1906 IndianHead PENNY that is PCGSMS65 + * CAC Eagle Eye Certified lol
I was under the assumption that this was a mutual agreement between PCGS & NGC to launch this new system of pluses at the same time. It will assist the high end collectors/dealers immensely, but as far as a "arm chair" collector as me, it does nothing but cloud the issues.
If there is one good thing to take away from this whole plus thing with NGC and PCGS is that NGC will decide upon grading which coins will get a plus and which don't with every submission...... on the other hand, with PCGS, you have to use a whole separate grading submission sheet and the quicker you want that coin and the more rare the coin....its going to cost you. By the looks of things, it doesn't cost any more for NGC coins.
I think the TPG's should offer a heads or tails service. For a fee, they will flip your coin X amount of times. Then the label will mark if it came up heads or tails more. Hey, why not? They seem to look for every other reason to get your business.
nope. they came out with the * designation a few years ago to mark better- then-average-eye-appeal coins
